Gdp Pump Issue?

well i installed the glacier 391 pump kit on my 05 ram about a month ago. it has always stayed around 17-18psi. i have no programmer or anything so on full throttle i would only drop like 2psi, i also have the 2micron filter kit. the guage reads post filters so i know what i get at the cp3 pump. i took my first 400 mile drive and about 260 miles in i fuel pressure kept dipping below 10psi on some light hills, no trailer and nothing in bed so truck was empty. then all of a sudden the guage went to zero. but the truck ran fine uphills and all. when i pulled into rest area i opened the door and i could hear the pump had a very loud whinning to it, normally cant hear it running. i plugged the factory pump back in and had about 4-6 psi with that so i used that to get me home. ill be calling richard at glacier monday morning and ask him about it. do you guys have any ideas as to what it could be. maybe just a bad pump or somthing??? i never hear of anyone killing the walbro pumps though. thanks.

Do you have a prefilter inline between the tank and pump

Did you make sure the fuel lines didn't get pinched up above the fuel tank when you tightened up the tank. I bet you if you loosen the tank and pull the lines over to the side it will solve your problem. Thats what happened to me.

check the filter and make sure that something didn't get into the filter it sounds like you might have picked up something out of the fuel that cloged up the filter there for it caused the pump to strain to pump fuel. in fact i would just change that filter out and its just a fuel filter from most autoparts stores like less than 10 bucks.

i know the lines are fine. pump was running fine for almost a month. i know its not the filters cause the factory pump pumps fine. only about 800 miles on the filters that are in their now. i disconnected the fuel line from the pump and was able to suck the diesel threw the line from the tank. so no blocks in the fuel line. very odd.

Does the stock pump also pump through the prefilter? Perhaps that's where the obstruction is.

It does sound like it's the pump. I'm sure Richard will get a new pump out to you right away. He is a good guy, the part has a warranty, he'll take care of you. I'm going to order the GDP soon myself. I plan on getting an extra pump just in case something like this would happen or for a roadside repair down the line. Years ago, when electric pumps first came out, I had a problem with 3 of them until I got one that worked. Finally the 4th one was right, and that pump worked for twice the time/milage of what it should have.

If the pump is bad, Richard @ GDP is Johnny on the Spot with customer service. I have had my 392 on for a few months now, and stays 20-22 PSI, even under 40 LBS of boost will not dip below 20PSI of pressure. Also, I can not hear my pump run at all, even if I lay under the truck and put my head next to the pump, still can not hear it. And if I put my hands on it, still hard to tell if it is running, as the the vibration from the pump is next to nothing. In other words, if I did not have a Fuel Pressure gauge, I would have to wonder if the pump was running at all!!!

well i spoke with richard today about the issue i am having with the pump. i did a flow test. he said it should pump about 1 gallon a minute. mine pumped 3/4 a gallon in a minute. and the pump still had a loud whinning to it. so he's sending out a new pump for me. i wish all companies were this good with customer service.
