gauges or electronic display?
I was wondering if plug-in displays such as the hypermax,bully dog, and quadzilla commander were as accurate as gauges. I want to start monitoring the important stuff without the hassle of wiring gauges. Anyone ever compare the 2? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks [coffee]

I have the bully dog pmt and a couple of dipricols. then one i have compared is boost. the pmt boost gauge runs off of the map sensor signal. therefor, if you run any kind of boost fooling, it will not be accurate. also your map sensor will not read over 32 psi. other than that they seem pretty accurate. plus, i think the pmt is a good bargain, because with that, you get a tuner, shift on the fly capabilities, and ALL the gauges you need with the exception of trans temp and fuel press. and some other gauges you probably dont need.

I am partial to analog gauges, they seem to be more accurate, and allows you to play with any programmer you want without affecting it whatsoever.

I wanted analog gauges but also wanted the safety features of the Commander. I installed a Quad X2 Standard and Commander a week ago and am very happy with it. I like the digital gauges a lot more than I thought I would. I can see 4 readings at a glance on my pillar and still have the pillar handle. The Commander is nice because you can set alerts and defuel. Since I tow a 10K fifth wheel, this is perfect for me.

plug & play
I have not used the one's you are asking about, But for plug and play I went with the edge insight. I get a 4 way split window display and you can program alerts such as regeneration into it. So far I really like it.[coffee]

Electric displays limit two things. They can only read boost up to 44 since they read off the map sensor, so they won't work for really big singles or twins. Also if you ever stack it with another box that boost fools, it will never read the boost correctly. If you don't plan on these two events, then it should work great. I was vey happy with my Edge for the longest time.

When I was trying to decide between analog gauges and a controller I was told the EGT temps of a controller are always an average and you never see your max temp. For this and other reasons I went with gauges and IMO they looking a lot more clean and factory, and if the truck goes to the dealer gauges don't look so "this truck is modded" As like a Edge or Bullydog controller that give it away totally.

BD Performance make a digital display with EGT, Boost, Trans temp, and Fuel pressure all in one digital screen (very easy to read).
Actually it only displays three so if you have a manual trans you can swap the trans temp for fuel pressure. They sell an idiot light kit if you have an automatic and want low fuel pressure alert. Boost and EGT are mechanical, fuel is electronic with a sender, Trans temp is from the PCM. It also flashes alerts. I like the small screen, I can see around my pillar. .........Jim |

SPA dual digital is my choice, obviously if you hate a digital readout they aren't for you. They are known to have the fastest, most accurate thermocouples/pressure sensors and you get two readouts per gauge, which is very nice for ONE gauge on the a-pillar. Also they have resettable max readings on all gauges, which are nice for seeing max egt or boost when you need to look at the road and not a gauge.

I personally prefer analog gauges over the electronic monitors for because I think that they are more accurate than the monitors. They do not rely on a sensor or a signal from the computer for the readout. However they can be a little more labor intensive to install than the monitors. Just my opinion...
