Fuel mileage while towing???

Ok so my mileage going to and from work in the city is 20+MPG!! Great i love it couldnt ask for better. However once i hook up to my 24' enclosed Vnose loaded or not i cant get better than 12. Currently i have Taken off the cat conv, and have a bully dog triple dog. before the triple i could only get 9-10. Now i do not drive like a crazy person, i drive to conserve fuel i am not worried about power when not towing i just need better fuel mileage when towing. What CHEAP options are there. even if they are homemade thats fine. have access to all metal working tools and stuff like that and im pretty good at making things. Please let me know what my options are. Thanks.

Sounds like that trailer has a lot of wind drag.

Sounds about right. My 07 Dually w/ 6-speed manual and 3:73 gears never got better than 10.5 when I was towing and that was with the trailer empty. It only got 9mpg loaded down. I get 12-13 towing in my early 04 as long as I drive like I want to save fuel.....

Don't feel bad guys my 06 duramax would get 6 to 8 pullin a 11000 lb bumper toy hauler. I got 9 one trip on level ground wind to my back going and coming. Tradin it of for a 06 mega cab 6 speed today. Was going to buy a 2010 or 11 but I decided to go with the low mileage 06 I found.

Long Trip MPG

Usually get 20+ when riding empty.

Just got back from a long trip to Alaska. Got consistantly around 15 mpg pulling a 6K trailer at posted limits, ~ 60 mph, through Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, and Alaska. Then limits went to 75 mph in WY, NE, and IA and MPG dropped to 11.

With our 6.7 that can breath, 10.5 to 12.4 hand calculated. Letting it breath did not change the towing mileage much, if any. Running empty and in town, it made a HUGE difference. Its not the weight, its the sail that you're pulling behind you.

That being said, the 6.7 is a towing monster that LOVES to work. I cannot say enough about it, the 6 speed auto and the integrated engine brake.

Mobile Suite is not light... I have a Elite Suite, granite is very heavy. Before the motor went with the TST and Edge EZ I could get 10-11 MPG towing, first outing with new motor and only the Edge EZ on setting 1, I could only get 8.5-9.5 MPG.
