Fuel Level Gauge Gone Bad

My fuel float has been off ever since I got this truck, it would tell me I was empty when I still had at least 10 gallons of fuel left. Well, now it is just stuck telling me full all the time.

I went by the dealer and asked about replacing it, they said I had to replace the whole lift pump as the gauge was part of the lift pump.

A. Is this accurate?
B. If I need to replace the lift pump, what is better than OEM? I have wanted to do a FASS type system, but that wouldn't fix my fuel gauge problem.

The Dealers are good at robbing us without a gun. You can buy a replacement fuel level float assy. from RockAuto for around $75.00, which screws onto your fuel canister, It's plug and play. I have the same issues as you. I also replaced my lift pump five years ago with a Fass DDRP which produces 18-22 psi without fail, to this date. I just need help dropping the fuel tank or lifting the bed. This should not be a big deal. I will never allow the dealer to install a new fuel canister with the electric lift pump in the tank. I hope I have been a help to you, Good luck.

That is helpful, thanks.

So, I can replace the level assembly and then add on an external pump to improve performance?

I checked Rock Auto and can't find the part. I checked the following parts diagram and couldn't find it either:

Does anyone have a part number?

Sorry, my truck is in the signature. 2005 3700. Is it safe to assume the 2500 and 3500 have the same part?

You can order the fuel sender from RockAuto and they will notify you when they receive their next shipment.

I dropped my fuel tank and removed the fuel canister to check the fuel float, a factory screw or whatever had fallen out, I replaced the screw and washer and cleaned the contact points, reinstalled and everything is working as it should now.
