Floating valves

With all the valve spring talk, I was wondering what floating valves sound like or how do you tell? I dont think mine have ever floated, but I guess I dont really know. Whos got the answer?

Why don't you give TnT (R) a run and record the sound so that the rest of us know? :-) J/K....

Good question, looking forward to the answer.

At one time their was a video of a truck sled pulling and you could hear them floating. I think he posted it to show people what to look for and soon after installed valve springs. May want to try a search.

Mine sounded like a slight knocking/tapping sound only at idle and low rpm. It wasn't very loud, but I knew there was an issue.

They were floating at idle, or was that after your valve and piston kissed?

Wouldve had to been after. if that happens at idle something is holding it open not floating.

Yep, after the fact. Problem is I couldn't tell you exactly what did it, months of WOT 3000+ rpm runs here and there or a couple of unanticipated 4000rpm bursts. The truck ran fine for a couple days after the 4000rpm deal, no noises. Then all of a sudden I could hear it.
