Finally installed my outlook monitor today w/pics!

Wow, it was kind of a PITA, I kept running into odd problems. I bought it used and some of the wires had different connectors on them, and it was hard to figure out what was what. (also the instruction booklet that came with it sucked, the pictures sucked, and the written directions were vague at best) Also, the fact that I was terrified of drilling my exhaust manifold didn't help either! I did install the pyro pre-turbo, I went to the hardware store and bought a test plug for a 4" pipe and drilled a hole and put an air fitting on it. I took off my exhaust tip, stuck the test plug on end of the tailpipe and hooked up my compressor. I figured that pressure comming from that end would further help prevent shavings from getting into the turbo, also, this way I didn't have to have the truck running. Anyhow it worked perfectly, no problems with that! It seems to be working well, except that I kept getting codes. I first tried the monitor with everything except the pyro hooked up and got a low boost code and an ECM code. I don't know what the pyro has to do with that but after I hooked it up I cleared the codes and they haven't come back yet, so we'll see after some more driving! I also don't notice any difference in the 0% 25% 50% 75% 100% settings, oh well, I gotta get the triple dog!!! BTW, what are normal at idle and cruising EGT's? I'm also reading like 2 pounds of boost at idle, is that normal?

How weird,

I did the same thing today.

I am getting 2-3 psi regardless, engine running or off. I agree with you about the instructions. They suck and their pictures of where the Data link plug is at. Good Lord, I don't know what they were thinking. LOL. I am looking into upgrading to Triple Dog or the PMT. I am hooking up the Pyro tomorrow.

From what I know(that isn't very much) that you should have no boost at idle. And as far as EGTs...at idle I'm at 300* and cruising 65mph-75mph normally 600*-700* I do have my pyro pre-tubo but I'm monitoring the last two cylinders as your pyro watching the front four which should be a little cooler(someone correct me if I'm wrong). BTW did you use anti-sieze lube when you threaded the pyro in...if not I would do that!!

I used teflon tape, will that melt? Should I remove it and just use anti-seize? I was worried about sealing problems and I don't think that the teflon will melt? Am I corret?

Don't adjust the Setting from 0-100% on the Power Pup, it's not adjustable on the fly. Only the Triple Dog is, you're using the defueling feature when you toggle the switch. It's simply a safety thing, and it might throw a code depending on conditions.

2 psi is normal for idle with the later upgrades.
When I first got the Triple Dog in 2004, the boost at idle was 1 psi(sometimes 0). The earlier programs must have been a little different.
These days it stays at 2 psi at idle all the time. This is taken on the Outlook Monitor. Not to worry.
Cheers
Mike

From what I understand you will want to leave the outlook on 100%. The older outlooks monkey with the MAP sensor in an attempt to de-fuel the engine but, doing this can actually make the truck run bad and does not just cut boost. This is why they do not do this anymore. In the beginning it was an attempt to be able to de-fuel any power adder you installed. This may or may not be why you had some boost codes.

Hope that helps.

Yep...Outlook defueling stinks. Leave it at 100% and DL the right program for your use.

Just to mention. The Triple Dog does it using a different method, and is adjustable on the fly. And the Outlook DOES have the Triple Dog algorithm in it, you just have to have the outlook set on the Triple Dog Setting.
