Towing with Smarty Beta 4.4
I had a chance to tow my 11K travel trailer yesterday and here are some thoughts:
1. I pulled it about 15 miles to a local lake. The road is an uphill grade but not steep.
2. Power is smooth and strong, it seemed effortless, better than version 405 I was using.
3. Rail pressure ran about 23K while towing up the grade in OD at 65-70 mph. Rail pressure leveled off about 19K on flat ground.
4. Since I've installed this software the truck accelerates quickly right after the shifts into third and OD. It continues this same strong pull after these shifts with the 11K hooked on behind.
5. EGT's were 800-850 post turbo pulling the grade and 750 on flat ground.
6. Boost builds quickly.
7. I don't know how much faith to put in the overhead but it was reading 2 mpg better than its ever read on that stretch of road with the same load.
If I think of anything else I'll add it later.

Smokeman not sure you can trust overhead. I did a trip this past weekend 1641.46 miles and the overhead said 23.4mpg w/xzt box. Well I did hand cal. it and came up with only 18.44mpg's. Went from AZ up to Colorado (mountains all the way)
Not sure how a programmer or box throws it off since I thought it went off of miles and fuel gauge?
So I take it you really like the smarty set up? Thinking of doing a smarty. See you got alot of mods, going to stay stock here though

great review.
on the overhead, when I was running just an EZ on level 1, my overhead was right about 3.5 mpg off. I have noticed with the smarty that it is only about 1 - 1.5 off depending on how I drive.
that beta seems to be the ticket so far.

Thanks for starting the thread. I just towed my 10K-lb camper from Raleigh to Marion NC this past weekend and had the Smarty Beta software loaded on level 7. The ride was smooth and powerful, and EGTs maxed out around 1350deg on some steep hills. Typically, I was running 20PSI boost around 1200deg EGTs. Occasionally, I would get a 25-30psi spike but not much over 30. My truck never downshifted - even on the steepest hills. Setting the cruise control on 65-68, I was easily able to keep up with traffic.
Prior to the Beta software, I had to run level 5 (on flat terrain) just to keep the EGTs in check (lvl 7 easily saw 1350deg on moderate boost when towing the camper). Overall, I really like the new software and cannot wait for the moderate/wild torque management.
Oh, as an aside, my mileage did not go up much with the Beta software as others have mentioned. Towing the 10K-lb camper on lvl 7 (with the Beta software), I averaged 11MPG at 65MPH. In city driving gets me about 17.5MPG...
