FASS & SPS 66 Turbo Update & Quest for 13s

Michael at HotRodDiesels.com finished my FASS w/Fuel Pressure gauge and Super Phat Shaft 66 turbo upgrades last week. He lost my kitty in the process, poor kitty. I am getting close to my low 13s 1/4 mile goal. I am now claiming a 13s 1/4 mile truck, just not as low as I am going. Best 1/8 mile track time Friday at Houston Motorsports Park was 1.961 60', 8.791 1/8 @ 79.79mph. Best 1/4 mile track time at Houston Raceway Park Sunday was 1.983 60', 8.827 1/8 @ 80.29mph, 13.904 1/4 @ 97.30mph. Out of Sunday's runs, 4 were in the 13.9 range and the rest were in the 14.0 range.

I should have waited until it cooled off Sunday, I ran between 5:30 and 7:00. The temp was close to 100 and muggy as it gets on the gulf coast. So much for the excuses. I am still trying to get the optimum 4wd/boost launch figured out. Seems torque management wont let me just bring up the boost I want. I also think I am hitting the rev/some limit in the middle of 3rd gear. It pulls Gs up to that point and then just levels off and kind of stays that way through OD.

The FASS system is great 18psi fuel pressure at idle, pulls down to 13 at WOT as slowly eases back to about 15psi. I have saw people complaining about how loud they are, but mine cannot be heard unless except when you turn the key on before you start. The install is fantastic. Mounted so that it is not visible unless you look under the truck. I will get some pics of new mods soon.

The Super Phat Shaft 66 is awesome. There is a little more lag than stock, not a lot. Once I get to 12-15psi with some fuel it lights. Goes straight to 45psi and stays about there. The most amazing part is I have not seen EGTs over 1290* on any WOT 1/4 run. This is with HOT Juice on 180hp/Low Boost Fueling on 5 and EZ on level 3 and a FASS. I could hit 1550* easy with a fuel pressure box only on stock turbo.

Here are the mods over the last 9 months:

What HotRodDiesels has done:
Full guages(Pyros(2), Boost, Trans Temp, Fuel Pressure).
Complete TC/Transmission upgraded for racing including billet shafts.
FASS fuel system.
Super Phat Shaft 66 Turbo and matching 4" down pipe all the way to the Banks Monster muffler.
Lots of tuning/tweaking, baby sitting me and hours of help putting a plan together.

What I could do:
AFE Stage I w/Torque Tube.
Bansk Monster 4" Cat Back exhaust.
Edge HOT Juice/Attitude.
Edge EZ stacked.

Michael at HRD is planning some tweaking on various things. Probably going to switch to a tighter Torque Converter. I have the Bully Dog Triple Dog in the back seat. As soon as the Crazy Larry program is available to update on the Internet I will be loading that program and see what that and the EZ stacked will do. Maybe even try a Little HOT Juice triple stack. I have to learn what the torque management system is really doing and how I can compensate.

I am pretty sure that some new injectors and ARP studs are right around the corner. Maybe I need to set the goal a little lower and shoot for 12s with a single turbo and #2. I started with 7400lbs stock truck at 16.87s 1/4 mile. Lost around 4 seconds so far, only need to loose one more second. Of course when all else fails I have drugs to fall back on.

The "Quest" continues and with the help of Michael @ www.hotroddiesels.com I am confident that I will be there before too long. Thanks Michael for all the help and extra attention to detail. Thanks to his wife for all the lost weekends.

I've been watching your progress every since you started posting, and see how far you've come since then. I can certainly say that you are a man on a mission, as well as a empty bank account Congrats on you progress thus far, and keep the momentum going. I am living my modding dreams through you, so don't dissappoint. I expect to be in the 12's in short order......

You are right about the bank account. But Michael has helped keep the cost down as much as possible. The boxes that I have tried and did not want have been resold for close to my purchase price. Went with the SPS66 because I just could not sign the check for the twins. Now that I see what it can do I believe that I can break into the 12s with it. It will probably take injectors, studs and Nitrous, but that overall cost is not toooo bad. No wife and inbetween costly relationships. It has seriously impacted all other hobbies, golf is out, no season tickets to the Texans, I am cooking again, vacation this year will not be within a 1000 miles of a casino, go to Sam's for the beer, etc.

But I am having fun. Just watching the faces when a 7400lbs QC 4x4 diesel truck beats a hot looking Tran Am, Firebird or Mustang on the track is priceless .
