F1 Injectors

OK, see sig for my truck....now has 73k miles...been running smarty for 60k of that....i'm going to get some injectors for the following reason:

-1. 50 extra hp never hurt anyone (or maybe 40hp)
-2. Precationary as i've run higher than stock pressures for 50k + miles...one reason i'm going with Don M / F1 is that they inspect/can fix injector bodies, as well Don M has a great reputation on here.

Questions:
- Anyone use 50hp F1's with the same turbo as me (and automatic)? Any noticable increase in smoke? This is important as i dont want to add any additional smoke for my daily driver / commuter...will go to 40hp if there's a difference....
- any concern using with an Arson 3 re will i have enough rp to run these? Guessing so but thought i'd ask.
- noticable improvements in any particular area (e.g. quicker spool, smoother,????) and inverse, any noticable negatives?

Thx, never had injectors before so figure i'd ask.

You'll have plenty of fuel with the ArsonIII. You will be amazed at the power difference, and probably fuel economy, too.

Can't tell you about the smoke.

I have the f-1's (40hp) and the same turbo you have. Right now I am not running my tuner(quad 2). I just use it for boost fooling and a rail pressure gauge. I can't tell that my truck smokes more than it did before the injector installation. It does seem smoother on acceleration. I can make it smoke if I really get on the throttle but it would do the same when stock. I haven't really tried but I feel sure I don't have enough fuel for WOT with my setup using the stock fuel pump and cp3.

Don't know anything about the Arson cp3 kit so I can't help you there. I've heard good things though.

What kind of a mileage gain did you see with the 40 horse sticks?

My injectors(F1.5's) are slightly larger than what you are considering. I have an Arson III installed, both TNT and TNTR sw8&9 will noticably drop my rail pressure at WOT, especially after TC lockup in OD. The verdict is still out on sw7.

The rp drop in part, may be the Walbro lp cannot maintain the volume the CP3 needs, although my fuel pressure stays solid at 20/22psi.

Good choice using Formula 1, if you do not want any additional smoke, I would think the F1's would be the way to go. I know mine will smoke plenty, however by leaving Smarty's TQ at 1, it is easy to drive with very minor smoke, even while towing.

My daily settings are TnT-R LVL 7
Torque Mgmt = 2, Timing = 3, Rail Pressure = 2, Waste Gate = Off

With current mods, it will smoke plenty if i'm agressive, as well it will pull Rail Pressure down if i really get into it.....i'm ok as is, just dont want to compound either the rp drop or the smoke...

I dont tow, just dirtbikes in the back so i typically leave on the above settings 100% of the time...

You will be fine with that size injector. Have you considered Exergy Engineering for injector work? Excellent guys that are previous Bosch employees. They know their stuff and you can talk to them directly, unlike Don.

To be honest, I really did not see much gain in mileage(maybe a small amount). It definitely did not hurt my mileage though and it does run smoother.

Walbro pump

Just a little FYI, the little Walbro got me to 787 on the dyno and into the 11's on the track before I upgraded. It's a great little pump. I was very happy with it. So much in fact that I keep it as a secondary backup on the truck. If the Raptor pump dies all I have to do is hook the line back up to my regulator and switch the connector for power and it's back running again in under 5 minutes.

Yes I agree it's a great little pump, in fact I just recently bought a spare from pumpsusa for $106. It's under the back seat, with my other spares....

The Raptor is the pump I was going to upgrade to, but for the price I could keep a couple Walbro's on hand.

My truck is about as modded as it is going to get at present, have no desire for anymore power, has way more than I can utilize now, and the Walbro is a perfect fit.

Next question guys....run the smarty as mentioned above...any benefit from getting a pressure box (XZT, MP-8,...)to go with the F1 injectors? Not looking for overly agro, just solid, smooth, powerful....and not adding any more smoke than i have now...thx

Since you have the Smarty already I'd just utilize the pressure adjustment within it if you want more pressure. At least it won't go over factory limits. You can go Mp-8 and the like, but since you only got 50hp stix, I'm guessing big power isn't the goal and the pressure boxes do shorten injector life.

Yeah, big power isnt the goal, just good power to supprise the unaware! Good point, only downside is i dont adjust smarty often and that means i run higher rp than i would with an adjustable box...one of the main reasons for the injectors is becasue i do run higher pressure than stock and wanted to ensure the "life" was renewed...

I am also looking towards the F1 Injectors, My truck now is sitting in the drive way with the motor full with diesel and oil. How do you go about getting a set of these famous Don M F1 injectors?

If you go to the F1 diesel website, it lists the dealers you can go through; call one of them.
