Exhaust Tip

Would a 5" tip change the sound of the exhaust, create drone, or anything like that, or is it purely aesthetic? Thinking of 13" stainless magnaflow tip with 5" diam. at exit.

I believe I have a Megs 5 inch tip that is 11 or 12 inches long and I don't think it changed the sound at all. I pull a 25 foot 5th wheel and have not had any problems with noise, drone, or anything sound related in over 10,000 miles of towing. I find it to be purely aesthetic.

I know from expeirience on small gassers the tips can make dramatic changes in tone & volume on these though your guess is better than mine

I think mine is 6x18 and it makes a pretty big differance in the tone and sound overall

Maybe a little but drone has never bothered me. Also keep in mind that I have 4" pipe from the turbo back and that is it. If you are planning a running any type of muffler I am sure there would be NO drone but what little bit I have heard is just that a very little bit. By the way I left my stock tale pipe in place and just slipped the tip on and drove like that for a while. But recently I just went back and cut off as much of the tp as I could where the tip would still fit. To me it made it sound slightly deeper and got rid of most if not all of the drone.
If you are lookin to deepen up your exhaust note, go with the longest tip you can find (in either 5" or 6") I believe I have seen some 24x5s, which if I was goin to run a 5" that is what I would get and to me the longer tips look better anyway.

Red face

I put a Magnaflow 6 X 24 on mine(its in my pics), and you can hear a difference, at the rear, not in the cab.

Yep, the exhaust was cut back within .5" of where I wanted the tip to ultimately stick out. I'm sure there was a subtle change in note, but after my muffler fell off, I'm sure any difference went out the door. I'll be hanging a 5" Magnaflow turbo-back system soon as the straight-piped life ain't for me......gotta do something before I take my 5-year old to see Mickey in Orlando the first week in March.

I stock 304 stainless exhaust tips that are 4" I.D. x 18" long x 6" O.D. with single bolt clamp if anyone needs one. They are available from the web site or you can phone.

They really compliment the exhaust being 6" O.D., and the length helps make the exhaust tubing look larger as well.

Maynard, do you think the 5" turbo back (with muffler) will be quieter than, the 4" straight pipe?

Ohhhhhhh yeah. I've driven both......mine (305/555 born cat-less) and a 325/600 with the turbo back Magnaflow system #15989 (cat was ditched....muffler was used). I have a 4" elbow from a 325/600 truck (customer bought an exhaust brake) and the correct clamps to attach to my turbo on the '03. Just hung a Magnaflow #15870 system on the wife's 2005 Jeep Liberty Limited 4x4 CRD today, so I'll have to dig up some mason jars outta the back yard before I lay the 5" pipe to my '03.
