I had the Jacobs exhaust brake installed on my 2006 when I bought the truck new. My truck now has 45k on it and I have been reading about guys having problems with their exhaust brakes. I guess pulley locks up and causes the belt to snap which then disables the truck. I cannot afford to be driving across the country with a trailer in tow and this happens.

So is their some kind of maintenance I can do or grease point that is supposed to be greased? Also can these parts that break be carried with me and changed out on the side of the road easily enough. If they can, where is the best place to buy them from and what exactly do I need?

my vacuum pump has died twice,but didn't lock the pulley up.i carry an extra belt with me(you can put the factory belt on bypassing the vacuum pump)but it would actually be better to carry an extra pump($90 and it only takes 10 minutes to change)

 

Ive often wondered this same thing, ive got almost 85,000 on mine and no problems so far, maybe i due for a problem. I thought the pump was way more money than that? Where do you find them for $90?
