Question Egt

I am going to leave my truck stock for a while. However, I would like to know if you are pulling a heavy load up a long mtn hill, if the controle module defuels to lower the EGT.I guess it could not if it didn't have a pyrometer. I guess my question is - - Cummins warranties these beasts, they know what people use them for and I wonder why they don't come with a pyrometer and instructions about EGT's. Obviously it is not an issue or they would program ecm to defuel at a set EGT. Seems odd to me but guess not as they would have to pay for cooked valves, etc.. Thanks Guys, Nelrod

I hit 1400 up a long hill bone stock with 10 000lbs behind me. I had my foot to the floor but I did get it that hot so it is possible in stock trim to have an EGT problem. Its just unlikely.

Before I put the extra pyro in pre turbo,I had mine @1100* POST turbo pulling a steep grade. The truck was only straight piped at that time.No other mods.As a result,I have 5" turbo back,& My AFE 2 ,& lift pump will be here on monday.

EGT gauge should be a standard item on any diesel power pickup. Big trucks have one, and diesel powered heavy equipment, aircraft, etc....Heck, even the SRT-10 comes with one from the factory, why, I don't know...

Little of the subject, but if I turn the TST off and look at the pyro, and then turn it on to 1/1 (timing only) the pyro temp actualy goes down 75-100
