Question Edge (70 Hp) box or bully dog pup ?

Sorry, if this has been asked before,I,m sure it has.I am going to purchase a box here in the very near future.I have been looking at the Edge (70 Hp) box and the bully dog pup down loader, what I intend on doing with this box is lite towing, fuel savings and no racing (getting to old ) Any info on these two products?Let me know the good and bad.Thanks.coobie.

Both good products one is a programmer and one is a module. The power pup is a programmer that you can just plug in on the bottom of Dash run program and remove when you don't want. Edge Box mounts under hood and is adjustable when you open up box and you will have to unplug when you don't want to use I would recommend Power pup for your application.

Thanks Kyle for the info.A freind has the bully dog pup in his 2003 dura-max 2500 HD,it hauls a$$ for sure.He claims he is getting about 2-5 mpgs improvement from stock set up with no other mods.I found this hard to believe. Thanks again.coobie.

Coobie,

I have both. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong w/ either product. I will say I enjoy the downloader more than the box. Truck runs way cooler and power seems to come on at the right time. Can really put you back in your seat. I have been running on the perf setting. Put the tow setting on once for about an hour but it was boring. Now I have a Ramifier (thanks Dennis!) that I am going to run by itself for a few days and then stack w/ the downloader. I have only done a few hot laps w/ the Ramifier (raining today) so far so I can't give any feedback on it yet but the fact that it is adjustable is really nice. So far it has been real smooth power.

Hope this helps,
Scott

I have ridden in a truck with an EZ, and just (finally...) recieived my Pup. I loaded the "Performance" setting and went for a test drive. I have to say I am nothing short of completely and utterly disappointed with the Pup. My buddies Edge on level 3 would push and hold me back in the seat, really letting me know the power was there at a much more intense level than stock. The Pup, on the other hand, was positively boring at getting up to speed. Yes, it's faster than when stock, but I couldn't even feel the pull in my chest. Boost was no higher than stock, while the Edge jumps up to about 36 or so, and that's when you really feel the power. Time will tell if I see any improvement in economy, but from the few miles I've put on so far I would certainly expect them because there is nothing there that will make me want to hot rod it anymore than when stock...

I have read in a few posts that the bully dog and the edge throws the overhead display(mpgs) off from what you are actually getting as far as miles per gal. goes,Is this true? How about throwing out codes? Thanks for all the info.coobie

DieselRaptor - Did you note any increase in boost pressure? Maybe there is something going on with my truck that isn't letting the Pup do it's thing????

tobyw-

When I ran the pup on my '03 I didn't notice any increase in boost whether on performance or extreme. When I stacked it with the VA pressure box, the boost came up due to the boost fooling from the pressure box. With the pup by itself on even the performance setting I did notice a definite seat-of-the pants feel though.

I had the Edge EZ wich has failed twice, went to the power pup and I feel much more power, better transmission shifting. Excelleration at highway speeds is far better than the EZ IMO.

Oh I did keep the Edge boost elbow on the turbo, I can see close to 40psi boost at wot.

I did back to back mileage checks (by hand, not overhead) on the Power Pup in the Tow and in the Performance settings. Each trip was near identical 250 miles and in the same weather conditions. I lost about .5 mpg on Tow and about 1 mpg on Performance. Great power, but I removed it due to MPG and that I could not adjust it on the fly for wet/ice conditions.

I just recieved a adjustable RAMifier from TS Performance and as soon as I get over the flu I will post mileage and power results.

Guys, do these boxes put increased wear and tear on the motor. just asking/curious, don't mean to offend anyone by asking. I'd like to get one but it seems hard to decide. Everyone gets different results. Mabey it's trial and error for each individual truck and application?

thanks Jamie

I know my truck puts out more boost w/ the pup vs. the box. I don't claim to have it all figured out regarding modules and all that but I know my truck runs better (performance wise) w/ the pup. When I hit the hammer a lot of the good stuff happens. Grunt wise, I pulled out ~7K Rough Terrain Scissor lift that was buried to the axles in nasty mud w/ no issues at all. Even my boss (who has a '97 Powerstoke w/ more than a few mods) was impressed w/ how easy we got that sucker out.

I am the last person that will try to suggest that your truck is not doing it thing.
