Dyno'd SO

I had the opportunity to dyno my SO today, the first run which was stock I had 152.9 hp and 305.1 ftlbs of torque. Has any one else seen these numbers with a stock SO? That is almost a 39% loss from the advertised HP. I do realize there will be a power loss in the drive train, the difference in dynos ran on, the engine temp and other factors, but wow ???. I also added the Edge Ez at the default setting (60 hp) on my second run, and put up 223.6 hp and 415.2 torque. I didn't get a chance to run the 70 hp setting, I didn't have my instruction booklet to get it right. I guess I was posting to see if others had experienced that much loss in the drive train.

Re:Dyno'd SO

20% is a lot more typical from what I have seen for both the HO's and SO's.Something sounds fishy there.

Re:Dyno'd SO

What's the chances that I may have something wrong with my truck. I would take having a 20% loss from a stock setup with out questions, but I thougt that maybe 39% was a little high. I am going to wait to read some more information, then I will head to the dealer to ask them what they think. Thanks for the replys, makes me feel a little better about my low power.

Re:Dyno'd SO

39% sounds way high. I would expect 25% from an auto trans and 4X4 t-case. a 6SPD RWD truck might see as little as like 15%. Auto 4X2 about 20% auto 4x4 about 25%.

so I'm guessing RWHP figures stock should be about 200 and Torque about 360.......

It's interesting to see how much of a jump you got out of the EZ on 60HP setting.

Re:Dyno'd SO

I saw the results of an '03 SO that ran a 198/345 stock. Not sure what tranny was in it. My truck ran about 18% less at the rear wheels.

Re:Dyno'd SO

Alright, I know we all want to tell everyone about huge hp/tq numbers on the dyno but come on! How does the truck run and pull? The dyno numbers really don't mean anything.. My truck runs great and pulls great even without the EZ box. I could really care less what a dyno tells me because the truck runs the same regardless!!

A dyno basically gives you a picture of your truck's performance at that particular moment. Weather, temperature, condition of your air filter, and many other factors affect the outcome. You may put it on the dyno in the summer and your numbers may be 20% higher. Who knows, the dyno may have had a malfunction or the operator didn't know what he was doing. So, unless you are having performance problems I wouldn't even worry about it.

ps. just throw the dyno ticket away so nobody sees it....

Re:Dyno'd SO

Yes dyno numbers do not tell the whole story. 39% below rated power is well and truly out of the norm however when compared to other trucks with the same engine. If that number was verified on another dyno I would be looking for a problem because that is way out of the window these engines normally will hit at.

Re:Dyno'd SO

...this has got me curious...as I came over from a chipped PSD that was dynoed at 213 to the rear wheels and this california so truck feels as good (different as it is a 6 cylinder) as my PSD...I have never dynoed the Cummins as of yet but by the seat of the pants dyno it might be close to my psd...any body else dynoed SO's....preferably a CAlif model?

Re:Dyno'd SO

I'm worried, I'd take it back to dealer! Make sure you put it back to stock, and don't say nothing about the Edge, but bring your dyno sheet.

Re:Dyno'd SO

Normally I would throw out dyno information, but when I am that low and other trucks are running about what they normally dyno, it got me kind of worried. I am going to the dealer tomorrow to get an oil change, I am also bringing the dyno sheet. I just wonder if something is wrong that I can not see. After driving the truck stock, it was decent, it had some good pick for a big truck. I never in a million years would have thought I was that low on numbers.

Re:Dyno'd SO

It was dynoed on a dynojet 248. Several other H.Os and S.O.s were dynoed also. He did see a 70hp gain from the EZ when it was plugged in otherwise I would of thought the fuel filter or airfilter was stopped up. Tim
