Dynatrac and axle U joints
I just got my Dynatrac kit and decided to install new U joints on the axle shafts. Dynatrac says they are only available from Dodge but I found that Napa shows them too.
So here's the question: Dodge has the regular OEM ones for $106. each or the Valueline one for $66. each. Neither one is greaseable and they can't tell me what the difference is. Napa has Spicer greaseable ones for $49. each. Which ones have you guys used and why? The greaseables would be nice. They might be weaker but I have an auto and don't race it. What's the difference between the Dodge ones? Thanks, John |
napa hands down

i have had some fitament problems with the 03-06 front axles ,the problem lies with the didtance between the caps and snap rings some u joints the distance between the snap ring is to much cant get them in the little groves on the caps , just make sure u clean and debure all the suffaces with a file and some emery cloth , we snow plow with are trucks so to get 30-50 thousand out of any u joint is great, i usually get the value line ones but mine have been greasable????

I have had 2 within the first 5k miles I had my truck. I replaced them both with napa greasables and have since put 20k on them and no complaints.

i put in (moog) precision 464's that were greaseable . always go with the greaseable's (parts) when possible!!

I know I was told today that the factory u-joints in the driveshafts are the ones most of the sled pullers use.
Ive never had any issues with mine in my axle but I guess im just surprised that the factorys in the axle arent stronger. |
replaced mine @ 35k with precision greaseables from NAPA

I am no help, but I need the outer axle for the driver side of my truck. Mine seems to be bent. anyone know where to get one?
Thanks |

I re-used the stock bearings in mine. Truck only had 7500 miles on it when I did the upgrade so I figured why not. I put some more grease in the caps while they were out after the tear down. I also shoot grease into them every 5,000 miles with one of those needle attatchments on the grease gun. Then a little dab of silicone over the puncture in the seal and all is good. They should last a long time that way...
Ohhh, and Hang onto your invoice for the hub kit. They'll sell you a Dynaloc upgrade for a lot cheaper than full price if you've got your hubkit invoice. I want the Dynalocs really bad, they don't stick out as far as Warns, but I'm having trouble finding my invoice.. [verymad] |

Do you mean they are using the driveline U joint in place of the normal axle U joint?NOWhy are you surprised they aren't stronger if you've never had any issues with them?
Uh cause there is several people are reporting problems within 5k miles that had trouble. But I didnt SO I thought they were pretty decent ujoints and now im hearing different. Especially considering the driveshaft ones are doin good even with the sled pullin crowd. You follow? I'd like to use the NAPA greaseable Spicer joints but just wanted to check first. It's amazing how high priced the OEM stuff is! Aint dat tha ugly truthJohn |
spicer greasable joints have longer needles and usually a larger body. napa also sellss the extreme duty greasable spicer joints for the driveshaft. they are like 50% heavier than the stock joints.
