DVD players opinions/advice

I am considering gettin a DVD in my dash, I rode about 3hrs today with a buddy and it was nice havin a movie goin as we rode.

I am lookin at a Jenson VM9511TS that is about 600 bucks on crutchfield.

Is Jenson any good?
What are some good brands that arent real expensive?

I am putting a 600 dollar limit on this DVD player cause it doesnt make my truck go any faster and I got a DD clutch, new turbo, bedliner, and 5" pipe I need to get befor this DVD so it is not at the top of my priority list. And I want a 7" screen.

Also some recomendations for good audio electronics websites would be great.

TIA

Well, I don't know about Georgia, but here in Vuhjinya it's illegal to have a video player where the driver can watch it. I thought about converting my Nav unit to where it would play videos but decided to just get the overhead unit to be watched from the back seat.... It should be here this week.....

I have a kenwood double din. Model 6019. I dont know much about Jensen though. I had to do some trimming of the dash and make some custom brackets to get the Double Din to fit. I have always had Kenwood head units and love them. But they are little more than what you are wanting to spend. I picked mine up for $700. But that was through a buddy that is a dealer.

I checked out a Jensen motorized screen unit at Best Buy that was around the same price you mentioned. The display model was so hot it was cooking itself. I figured it was just a defective or over-used unit, but after going to another Best Buy and finding the same thing I decided against getting a Jensen. Pioneer makes a decent unit that is not much more than the Jensen and it runs much cooler. Although it isn't in the same price range, I ended up with the AVIC-Z1 and couldn't be happier! Pics in my gallery for anyone interested.

I dont know if its legal or not but I am not that worried about it, I dont really want it for me to watch, just the cool factor and for my passengers. As mentioned above it is low on my list of things to buy so I got time to research it.

You may want to look into a portable. Not only do you avoid any legal issues as mentioned earlier but it will save you around $400. You can also take it in any of your vehicles not just the truck.

Lightbulb MegaCab entertainment/nav/pc system

When I was shopping for my '07 MegaCab Laramie I was specifically after most all options except that "rear DVD system" and Nav. IMHO they are expensive, small and unnecessary. Here's why:

Instead of having all that expense for only DVD functionality on a small screen, I've implemented a 17" screen laptop (Toshiba dual-core P4 3.86GHz) wired to the Infinity sound system. The laptop rests on the center console and secures perfectly between the seats. Now not only can passengers watch DVDs in complete style but I've Internet access (wireless in my driveway, or downtown, any other wireless access point, WAP), 100GB of random access tunes, connect it to my GPS, etc., etc., ~> anything one could do with a portable sys (I'm waiting for real-time engine sys performance monitoring/graphing & full-control programming).

Sorry for the poor pics. I need a wide-angle lens. As it is I was standing in the bed taking these shots thru the power rear-sliding window.

Cheers,
Dane

The screen will be hooked up to your parking brake, it is against the law to have a functional TV screen where the driver can view it.

I have this model or one that is extremely close to it, it works fine, I like having the SD Card slot, since it's a single CD/DVD I downloaded every "Tool" album to my SD Card and now it's like having a Disc changer. I don't like the toggle ***** when your driving, too hard to work with. I love having the Off-air antennae. I picked up a 8" overhead screen at Fry's Electronics on clearance for around $150 and have that hooked up to it for the back seats. Not that I recommend doing it, but if you push your parking brake in about an inch it will trip the switch so that the front screen will be on while you drive.

I would have liked to have got one where I could listen to the radio up front while the kids watched their movies with their wireless headphones, Oh well?

The touch screen works well enough, just be careful where you touch it, some of the menu options are invisible on the screen while a movie is playing, they're in the corners. Learn how to switch off the subtitles, each time you start the truck the head unit will hold the memory of where you were in the movie, but the subtitles will be on.

Some pluses, some minuses...Overall the kids love the movies and I love the SD and Off-air (Cali makes it hard to watch MNF if you leave work at 5pm) I would just have the wife drive home and I would sit in the back watching the game.

She now drives the 02 with the TV's and I drive the 06, since the 06 has Sirius my NFL addiction is assuaged.

Sorry...I meant I have the one you're looking for opinions on. Jensen VM9511TS.

Had to bold the "e", I'm part Dane (Jensen) not Swede (Jenson).

Oh, well what is a SD card slot?
How bout an Off air antennae?

For the price would you recomend getting one?

I found an alpine unit on ebay for about 450 but it is a 6.5" screen, but I am consiering it even though it isnt 7"s

How is the sound quality compared to stock? (If you installed it with stock speakers) I have 2 12s under the back seat and I am hoping a better head unit will help. The sound quality of this unit is just as important to me if not more than the picture quality.

Does it have a remote?

SD Card is the memory card you use in you digital camera, you can convert your CD's to either WMA or MP3 files and then plug the card into your deck (just left of the right ****), when you use it your screen will list every song by page or chapter, you touch the song, it plays.

Off-air antennae is to receive local tv broadcasts. It's a thin wire that would be mounted across your windshield at the very top, you can't see it unless you lean over your steering wheel and look up (practically).

It has 2 remotes one for front (adult, lot's of buttons) and one for back (kids, a few buttons).

I put in Polk Audio's and I regretted it, should have kept my factory speakers or waited to get something better, it's hard with 6x9's and such to get good sound anyways.

Pic quality is very good for what it cost, far superior compared to our back screen.

Surround sound is the way to go, but ours with the Polk audio is pretty good, I just think the factory gives you a more pronounced and tighter bass, not much but some.

I have an alpine iva-d310 touchscreen in my truck that I'm happy with and units like this work very well with building a system or adding other acessories, probably above the price range you mentioned though. I would also recommend looking for other sites on the internet to make your purchase from, as crutchfield generally sells their products at retail price and with a little shopping around I'm sure you could find something less expensive.

Go to best buy and check out the DUAL its a 7inch touch screen motorized one regular price is 600 but during thanksgiving it was on sale for 350 and i think it has a better picture quality that the pioneer ones they had. they would not tell me if it would be on sale again for christmas all they said was "you will have to check back" whick makes me think that is will and they will install it for free
