Dr performance predator vs quadzilla
Dr performance predator vs quadzilla
I just ordered a new 2007 Dodge Laramie Mega 5.9L Auto and I was wondering if anyone has had experience with dr. performance predator or quadzilla. How do they compare? I don't know anyone who is using the quadzilla and the local high performance diesel guys are pushing the dr performance predator. Any advice would be extremely helpful. Gauges sitting on the bench, just waiting for truck.
Texas vs. Texas in that match. I haven't messed with Dr Performance. Quadzilla is good for power through the range (on mine) above 1700 rpm set at 100hp. The low end power is better on mine set on lower levels. Don't worry there will be people chiming in with trucks that match yours better. There are plenty of people running with Quads on their trucks. BTW welcome to DTR.
I've owned 1 programmer (Superchips flashpaq), and 1 module(Quad's Race Module). I liked the power of the S/C, nice power on bottom end and plenty of top end power but the egt's were higher than the quad.I sold the S/C because i wanted on-the-fly adjustability. That and b/c Qzilla has a great reputation on this site for cust. service. Plus I got the race box used on the classifieds for about half of retail.
I really haven't ran it hard on the 130hp setting b/c I'm scared I'll trash my tranny. Sorry for the long post , hope this helps!
Oh, welcome to DTR! Use the search feature, there's tons of info on here.

You may have better luck using the Search feature here. Its a great tool in finding info since pretty much EVERYTHING has already been discussed.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate all the input. The truck will be mainly used for highway driving with the occasional tow of 10,000 lbs. but always to be one step ahead of my buddies duramax.
I do not have the same rig as you so for what it's worth - -
The nice thing about the Dr. Performance line is that some dealers actually do installs right off the lot. Those that do will not void your warranty if your using the Dr. P products. With that said I have a Predator module on my 98.5. I know I am comparing apples to oranges but bang for the buck I would stick with the Q-ZIlla. My Dr. P unit stacks really well with the Smarty I have but as a stand alone unit it left a lot to be desired. Go with the Q-Zilla and you have texh support at your finger tips. Go with the Dr. P and wait on hold for a tech just to get voice mail and not have you call returned for hours if not days (I have played that game).
DOes the 06 Smarty work with the 07 5.9?? If so you may consider looking into one of them for that low end "seat of your pants" feel from throttle responce.

I ultimately need enough power to pull a 10,000 lbs fiver and not have to worry about EGT's going through the roof. But Want enough power to kick butt on my buddies duramax even if its just by a bumper and with all this would still like good fuel economy. I know I'm asking alot and want the best of both worlds, I'm just looking at the best way to go about it while keeping things safe and reliable. I don't want to be replacing a tranny in a few months and having to worry about crazy high rail pressures.
I'd say Quad is your man. I pull 10,000 lbs with my Quad box on the 30 hp setting and its really strong. Now that I have a pyrometer installed I'm going to turn it up to 60 h.p. and see what happens with the EGTs. I've pulled with it on 60 before but I always babied it because I didn't have gauges. This weekend I'm going to see what she's got!
tranny is the key word here. The stock tranny does not handle much power. I would recommend the edge juice or equivalent. This will allow you to adjust your power level easily, so that you can adjust your power down when you are towing, and up when you are racing your buddy. But to be honest, not sure what year your buddies truck is but if it is a new one (LBZ) you may not be able to beat him even on 5.

My buddies truck is a 06 d-max and I have beat him with my 7.3l f350 with a dp custom tuned pcm, but just by a nose.I have heard that the pcm on the d-max will add 80hp after 30k. I don,t know if it is true or not.
But to be honest I would like it for economy and reliabilityand just a bit of performance.
Thks.

I have the same setup and I use the quad standard box, 30Hp, 60HP and 100hp. I tow an 11K 5th wheel. When towing stock I had to chose very carefully when I want to pass someone. Now I can do so at will with no problem. Now I don't have to worry about the tractor trailers even catching up to me.
I've had the box for over one year, I initially had a problem but the owner who is always around here read my post and overnighted me a new one. Never a problem since. I always tow on the 60hp settings. But I have to say for the price and quality It would be very hard to be the quad box ($404.00)
