New SB OFE is really grabby
I finally had it installed yesterday along with new flywheel from SB. Techs replaced the rear main while they were there.
My problem is it is very grabby. I can't hardly pull away from a stop without it jerking pretty good. Backing up a slight incline is really rough. Will it get better? I can't even imagine having the FE clutch!
I tow a 20K lb 5er, and I can't even fathom trying to back it up a hill with the clutch like this.

Mine acts the same way with the 2001 model NV5600 in my '90. It was really nice immediately after installing it in January 2010 but lately it's started to get kinda jumpy upon engagement. Especially in reverse. I'm trying different techniques with little success.

Yes, it is a grabby unit but with time you will learn to adjust to it. Been running mine for about 4 yrs now and it still jerks pretty bad if I take off in 2nd gear without some light throttle. Backing up a heavy load (such as a 5ver) can be pretty nerve racking unless you put it in 4-hi. I had 8k lbs of sand in the bed of my truck the other day and I could have gotten away with backing in 2wd but 4wd really seemed to take the stress off of things.

My OFEK is new and takes off just like the stocker was as far as smooth goes but it sure does feel mushy like the other did. Will see how we go after a few thousand miles.

Yep, she was loaded pretty heavy....8k empty and just a hair shy of 16k when I crossed the scales. I was almost expecting the bags to blow out but they held up surprisingly well.....don't even want to think about what would have happened if they would have given up!!!

Yeah, I was kinda worried a bit but the truck got the load up and moving surprisingly easy. Going forward the clutch worked just fine in 1st gear....smooth as butter. Backing up in my driveway was a different story....thought for second I was going to rip something outta the driveline it was jerking so bad. Put it in 4hi and it acted like a stock clutch.....very smooth.
If only I could find a SUPER HEAVY DOODY shock, those kinds of loads for me will be few. The up and down motion was enough make you sea-sick......kinda reminded me of a trashed out hoopty going down the road with no shocks on it. Granted, I used to haul 26k lbs on a daily basis with my truck, most of that weight was on my 53' gooseneck trailer. Having that much weight directly in the bed is whole different animal!!!
