Decided On SPS 62/14 Now What???

Well, after a week long poll, and getting many pm's I've decided to go with Industrial Injection's Super Phat Shaft 62 with the 14cm exhaust housing. So, what to do now? Any place to get a good deal on one of these other that from II? Anyone who's installed one, how hard of an install? Any tips on making it easier?

You will really love the spool up and performance of the sps 62. The only advice is to put the two short studs closest to the motor and put the oil return line onto the sps 62 before you install it. Other wise the return line is hard to bolt up to the turbo once you have installed it.

Its pretty simple process... take off the air intake and rear down pipe cast elbow. remove oil line on top , then remove 4 bolts and you are done with the removal of the stock unit.

PM me if you need help

thanks,

I got the best instructions on how to replace the turbo on one of these trucks that you will ever read.

1. Bring truck to my house.

2. Sit in lawn chair and watch me work.

3. Test drive your truck an enjoy your new found power.

Streesmoker, Just bring the thing over to the house an we will put it on

when you guys are done this, let me know how this turbo works for you. i am going to buy a new turbo in the next couple of months or so. and was looking at either this one(62/14) or the 64/14 II turbo. I tow heavy trailers and dont want a turbo thats gonna give me to much hastle when it comes to towing or just playing with the little corvette next to me. Thanks for some input. guys.

Dodger,

I spoke to the guys at High Tech Turbo and they made an interesting point. The 03 has a 9 cm housing so they recommended a 12 cm housing, they told me 14 cm housing would have more turbo lag due to the larger housing which could be frustrating at times. Haven't had a chance to install the new turbo yet as I'm outa town, way outa town. It looks like you have your vehicle BOMB-ed a little hotter than mine. Just a thought for you. Good luck with your project.

Dodger, give Twest@ www.tcdieselperformance.com a call for whatever you need, or just pm him here. He qoted me a great price on a SPS62 and he'll hook you up. One more thing, with a 62mm compressor size, a 12 over the 14 isn't that much, cause it has great spoolup allready due to it's smaller sise, so why not bennifit in the upper rpm's by going with the 14cm?

When the HY35/9 was first used, Mark Chappell told me there was no noticeable performance difference between the 9ccm single port and the old 12 ccm dual port turbine housings. Is it different with the gen3 9 ccm housings? Craig

cool thanks for the suggestion. i Made a couple of calls today and i am leaning towards the 62/12 HTB2 from HTT. I talked to paul and he was an enourmous help to me. thanks for the suggestion, i talked to my local diesel shop up here and they even suggested the HTB2 62/12. he siad that i would be happy with it and that is more turbo than what will need for the time being. thanks for the suggestion, i will also talk to the name mentioned tommorow. thanks

if you never fuel the truck you will be happy. I can get this egt's out there with the 66/14 empty. the 12 is not going to spool much quicker on a 62 than the 14 but will hinder the flow on the gasses causing the egts to go up. I love the 66/14 on my stick and it really does not tow bad. I run the tst/ez stack all the time at 4/4, 2. the thing is nice to drive with the 12 on program maybe a lil touchy when it had the 4 psi on, but it has no noticable lag with the twins program. the auto my buddy has has the 64/12 and the egt's go up fast.

Dodger, the good aspect about HTT is they will upgrade your turbo if you outgrow the one you have for a fraction of the cost of a new one. I think the guys at HTT are top notch. Good luck.
