Couple OFE questions

I'm gonna be putting in my sb ofe clutch here in the next week or so and just had a couple questions before i do so. Now keep in mind this is for the g56 tranny. do i have to have the hydros upgraded cause i've read people don't but not sure. and also, is there some kind of shim that needs to be removed or left in down in the tranny. something with some kind of rod? i remember reading somewhere about it and if it wasn't removed it caused a vibration? any ideas there. any suggestions for making it a fast removal. I have access to a lift, and have done many tranny swaps before but none with this truck. thanks in advance

Not 100% sure on the g56 hydros, but on the nv5600 the stock stuff is fine. Can't help you with the shim dealher, maybe just e-mail southbend, they are supposed to be awesome to deal with. If nothing else here is a bump for you.

There is a spacer that SB will provide with the flywheel if that's what your talking about. There is also a washer that is behind the pivot ball that the fork pivots on that if you install a sprung hub Dual disk SB recommends you remove but I don't think singles require you to. Your stock hydros should be fine with a OFE Taking the tranny out is quite easy. If you have a lift and a trans jack you'll be good. I used a 36" 3/8 extension to get the top bolts because they are kinda a pain to get to. Putting it back in will take some patiance. If you've done it before than it shouldn't be to bad. Also for some reason my crossmember was a pain in the but to get back in so it will also take some persuesion.

hmm. what spacer are you talking about that goes with the flywheel. i don't seem to have one. the piviot ball is the one i remember people talking about if not removed it caused a vibration. also, did you leave the tcase attached and remove as one whole unit or did you disassemble them.

Do your self a favor and pull the t-case then the tranny. I've done it both ways and have found it easier to pull them seperatly. Even with the trans jack and safty chains the two together get a little tipsy and putting the 2 back in togather is a mfer. do it separtly. I would talk to peter about the washer behind the pivot ball. I took mine out with the dual disk. But a single disk is smaller.
I also found with my truck that with the tranny and the t-case removed, the truck was unstable/top heavy on the lift and I supported the front with a jack. Gave me a better peace of mind
