If u go to cummins they have a 180 degree thermostat, I have raced many times and do alittle pulling and it will barely reach 200. Oil temps have reached 220 though, I'm running premium blue 15-40

during a sled pull the needle on my water temp will go about halfway betwee 200 and the red. i dont know for sure how hot that i but if i let it idle for about 10 minutes it cools down pretty good. normal driving i see around 210 or so and im running royal purple 20-50 synthetic

Mine goes up pretty good maybe around the 220,230 mark, I run amsoil, all the way threw

amen to that my 98.5 never got that high even with 485,000 on it. it still runs way cold than ether one of my 3rd gen

diesels run better when they are hotter-meaning, if the truck calls for a 190 degree thermostat-put in a 190 thermostat, not a 180 ! you will lose performance and mileage with a lower temp thermostat.

I see higher water temp when the egts stay up higher.

so, compensate in the Texas summer with a 180, then when it cools off a bit, switch back to the 190, sounds like a plan for me.

Same here... Temps head up when pulling a 5 mile 5-6% grade... She cool down pretty quick when I get my foot out of her... 195-200 normal driving...
