Commander
Commander
Well i did a search and couldnt find and answer to this question so here goes. Has anyone tried using the ATS commander or any similar transmission controller on the stock tranny no VB or TC? I am looking to get the TC to lock-up earlier is about all. Any input here would be helpfull thank you...
Barrett,
I use the Commander but I also have all of there components to go with it. I would think that the Commander would be too much for the stock torque converter. By locking it up sooner, you are asking the torque converter to hold more then it was designed to hold with very little line pressure. The Commander can make the triple-Loc do that and live, but it has three friction disk and the VB has been reworked to send more pressure to hold the clutch in Lock-up state. This is just want the stock TC's problem is, Low line pressure, and very little surface friction area. There are a few more problems then just this, but these are the main draw backs to the Dodge version of a truck TC.
Will it work with the stock TC?? I do not know, I sense it will but for the straight answer call ATS. I think I know what you are trying to do, but I am not sure the WEAK stock TC is up to the task. Good luck

Thanks for the input. That is kinda what i was thinking to little line preassure and too little area for the stock TC to get a grip. I guess ill have to save up fro the new VB at least before going the Commander route. Thanks again
