Clutch Again!!!

I recently had a Soth Bend Con OFE put in my truck & it feels like it is going out. I don't sled pull or do serious racing. I do the occasional redlight brawl. Is this normal? I don't know if I can dump another $1,000 for another. I had the clutch installed by an expert transmission guy. What should I do?

First step would be to call Peter at South Bend and discuss the issue with him to find out what the problem is.

I could be wrong and I'm sure others will chime in but it seems to me that 90 hp sticks and a 6 Gun on an 05 might be a little more than what you should expect a Con OFE to withstand for too long. Peter will obviously be the guy to consult but I think you might need a stronger clutch.

I will give them a call. When I was ordering it, I told them I was going to drop in 90 hp injectors. It doesn't slip out of gear, it is hard to put into gear & shift gears. If I get a replacement, should I have anything else replaced while they are into the clutch?

When the clutch was new (before the 90 hp injectors) & I would go to launch at a light, it seemed like it didn't want to grab. Is this the norm with a performance clutch? I thought the would grab harder. Is this maybe something my mechanic did?

My FE sometimes has a little harder time getting into gear when its colder out, but thats the only time. I have read on here that a few other guys get the same thing out of their FE or OFE whether its warm or cold. Mine shifts like a stock truck does though, and i'm pretty certain you're not slipping it at all.

I am in a cold spell right now, should I expect a change when it warms up?

Agreed, Unless he already installed the upgraded hydrolics. If he did that also then it may be out of adjustment.

I'm gonna say no, That doesn't sound normal.

I only have about 36,000 total on my truck. WHat are you all talking about upgrading hydraulics?

My ofe will hold everything in my sig with no slipping.I think your problem is something else.Getting it in first and reverse is a little harder than on a stock clutch.I say call Peter also.

Your clutch slave cylinder may be going bad, not allowing you (or making it harder) to engage gears. SBC offers a hydraulic upgrade kit but the OFE doesn't really need it, its more directed to the FE and DD clutches. Does the pedal feel mushy or awkward?

Not really, it's just a better built unit for the bigger plate load clutches.
