Chrome Coming Off Plastic Grill - Ideas?

The chrome is coming off my front grill frame - which is plastic. Aftermarket grills are usually only the center insert. So I'm not sure what to do...

Ideas?

Plasti-dip it. I'm not a chrome fanatic so it was easy for me to smooth out and remove some of the chrome when my grill started delaminating. Turned out pretty nice. I sprayed about 6 or 7 coats

Cool, thanks! Saw that technique mentioned on another site for something else but forgot that it was a possibility. I'll look into it...what did you have to do to prep it? Mine is doing the exact same thing as yours. Won't be long before it starts falling off.

All I did was clean it really good while it was in the truck... bugs and all. Then I removed the grill and masked off what I didn't want coated... Basically all the black plastic. The emblem on the 4th gens are removable, so I removed that and coated that separately. Pretty simple process. I think it took 3 hours for 6 coats, 30 minutes between each coat. Then I let it sit over night before installing the grill and putting the emblem back on.

Here are a couple photos of when I finished it in April 2013:

It still looks pretty good, but could use a touch up when I get the time.

Plasti-dip is a spray on .
That looks good!

Pretty common problem. Mine has been gradually getting worse over the last couple of years.

If I ever get the time, I'll sand it smooth, and spray paint it. It's not a show truck, so I'll probably give it the Krylon touch with a couple of base coats and a couple of clear coats.

After that, coat it with 3M Defender to keep it looking good.

I blacked out my truck with Plasti-Dip, I love it simply for the reason it's not permanent. If I ever decide to sell the old girl I can simply remove it, a lot of people don't like the blacked out look and I won't loose any value. Although with the how expensive the new trucks are I might be buried in my 06.

I will say watch some you tube videos about the terminating edge/masking. I had to re-do my rear bumper. The edge is the weak point, and if not masked properly you can and will peel some of the product. This after hours of prep [verymad], spend a few min and watch some videos.

Thanks Rye...I might try the white (since my truck is white) or I think they have metallics - I'll post pics when I get it done...

I had my entire grill sprayed with Linex. No more paint peeling issues.

That's a really great idea too.
