I'm probably gonna buy one of these on E-Bay. It's called the Big Daddy horn and it does not need an air compressor. It's only around $90 shipped....

This horn puts out right at 140db while some of the expensive train horn systems put out 150db...

About 35 yrs ago, I built two whistles (two tone) out of 3/4" blackpipe. I got the idea from the kids toy plastic flutes. I hooked them up to the shop 180 psi compressor with a ball valve and opened them babies up and it was totally deafening and bone rattling - all five 14' steel doors vibrated!! Them I put them on my OTR truck at 120 psi and I can testify that those whistles would stop ALL the southbound traffic during rush hour on I-25 in front of the Regency in Denver! The whistle noise was way more startling than airhorns. A machinist friend has them now, copying them. Craig

 

Well, the Wifey just laughed when I told her I was thinking about buying one of these horns. That means it's OK to buy one so I just did it. I should have it here this week sometime and I'll post my results on how it sounds.....

It should be here today or tomorrow. The sound clip he sent me does sound just like train horns. These put out only about 10db less than some of the train horn setups I saw for sale. If it is indeed the case then I will be happy. I don't want to scare myself everytime I hit the horn......

I have the Seige Engineering triple air horns running at 140 psi, and have used them on stupid drivers a few times. Having horns that loud, one has to be careful. I almost caused an accident at Dale Blvd and Hoadley when someone cut in front on me from the right at the intersection. The driver in the car on my left locked up her brakes and almost got rearended... Needless to say, I look at whose around me before I activate the "horns". Good luck with yours.

 

There is also a BadBoy mini air horn that is relatively cheap. Around 60 bucks I think. I believe it is 139 db, but it didn't have that big rig sound to it in my opinion.

 

trainhornkits.com, 176 db train horn, get there heavy duty compressor, and grunion fabrications has a nice selection of tanks.

 

I run my trail horns off my 10 gal air tank mounted under the bed. The tank is fed by kilby on board air with the motor driven york pump. I have two air line that feed the horns. One is a pull valve in the cab so I can feather it like a trail. The other is a solinoid that is triggered by the remote on my key chain. Sure is fun making people crap there pants when there looking at my truck ad i make it go off.

 

Are you going to leave your stock horn intact and put in a button for the new horns ? I was looking at these same horns, and if there are that loud, it may be a good idea to keep the stock one as is.
