cat filter / fleet guard filter
 

Anyone know the actual truth about using a Cat filter 1R-0750 in place of the fleet guard filter ff 5320 on the GDP MK-2 fuel filter setup MK20305-apps. Is it a true, simple screw on filter change, or do you need different gaskets or rubber O-rings to install the cat filter? I talked with DIESEL POWER PRODUCTS and the guy said he thinks you should be able to simply switch the filters as long as they correctly cross reference as each's filter numbers...:banging:

At the end of the day all nation testing is done down to 4 microns, anything lower than that is brand specific and NOT nationally certified. Now does that mean its not a good filter, No, the testing that Cat does is proprietary. I personally think Cat makes a great filter. Fleet guard is now solely made in China. I have visually compared Cat and Fleetguard filters for what I run at my shop. cat seems to be the better filter but keep in mind that is a visual look over not a scientific evaluation.

You might try a Donaldson P551313 (P551315 for a longer version), which is a 2 micron and will fit you application. They are $6.53 ea. @ ryderfleetproducts.com.

I have the GDP system you have and swapped to the CAT filter. Just make sure you put on the o ring that came with the filter and remove the one that was on the Fleetguard (I think it had one, can't remember).

Overall the CAT filter seems to be better. I replaced mine when someone a few years ago saw rust in his Fleetguard filter. Mine had a little surface rust but none internally like his. The CAT filter head is aluminum and the interior is plastic. The filter canister is also coated to prevent rust.

I know some may say diesel may affect certain plastics, however I've never seen any issues with the interior of the filter when I inspected them after removal.

I run the GDP setup as well as the Cat filter. I'm not running an Oring on it. I merely unwrap the plastic and spin it on. It does have the large flat rubber washer like the oil filters. I leave that in place.

For the Fleetguard fuel filters, are those really made in China?

Carl-Thanks for the correction. That was a test and you just passed. Actually I had p551311 written in my book, but something happened between the book and my fingers. I guess it's part of the aging process.

I as well have been running the GDP MK setup with the cat 1R 0750 for 6 years working great

Also for those who have the AirDog 150 it is possible to run a Cat 1R0751 with 7/8 thread size mounting right on the pump. Supposed to be 2 microns absolute at I think 99% efficiency. Not sure if the Ultra High Efficiency Cat filter will fit likewise or not.

Yep....fits right up!!! I also upgraded to a better FG H2O separator as well....can't remember the number right off hand but will get it in the morning.

If possible can you get the number off the UHE filter as well? I had it written down somewhere and seem to have misplaced it somewhere. Thanks!
