Hi everyone, i just bought my first diesel, a 2006 5.9, 120k miles bone stock. The owner took care of it extremely well and it hasn't been thrashed yet, found me a gem!

I plan on doing some basic modification such as intake, exhaust and programmer. I've had trouble finding a precise answer as to what I can legally do (legal as in it will pass smog inspection) to the exhaust. Can I get a cat system and delete the muffler and it still pass inspection? What are the best setups?

Also at over 100k miles what are the must do services to keep the truck from having future failures?

If you have a friend or relative in another state, order a Smarty or Smarty Jr. They will not ship to Calif. It is my understanding, no personal experience, that it can be returned to stock and leaves no footprint. Also, I believe intake items are not a problem but, the Cat must be retained. They always look under my truck during the smog test. Different mufflers are okay.

I had a Smarty for nine + years.
I much prefer EFI with it's instant power levels with the switch. Cleaner and smoother.
Diesel Power Products in Utah shipped mine to San Diego a year ago. Looking at their site's showing nothing to California aside from Banks.
You can't get a Smarty or even Mads BBI injectors here.
