Bully Dog power delievery very rough...is this common?

Ok, so I just installed the Bully Dog Power Pup on my truck. Well, I live in Oklahoma and the past 2 weeks the weather has been very crappy so the only driving I've been able to do was just idling around town pretty much in 4wheel drive.

Well, weather finally clears up enough that I get to drive the truck on the highway and get to hook onto my 17 enclosed trailer to see how BD tows. To say the least, I'm not very happy.....the power is like a lightswitch, its either off or on! If you barely crack the throttle from a stop and slowly accelerate you dont notice it. But if you accelerate moderately like any of us do, its very touchy. At like 1500 RPMs there's a big power hit and the motor really starts to rattle....and there's another big power hit at about 2000 RPMs. Now the power comes on good with fast turbo spooling but its kind of a pain to drive on a daily basis!

Then with towing and using the cruise control at 70 MPH....its even worse and really annoying. Pulling a hill is really bad...it'll finally start making power to pull the hill at about the top of a decent size hill....well about that time the cruise will decrease throttle just a bit to control speed and its like someone let off the gas n' tapped the brakes!

Does anyone else have this issue with their BD products? Only bright side of this is that I was getting better mileage while towing my trailer. I'm highly considering returning it and getting my money back. If this doesnt happen with the Triple Dog programmer, I'll just upgrade to it...but the Power Pup has not impressed me.

Should have gone with the Triple Dog. The reports are much more consistant on the favorable side. Some hate them, but many more seem to love them.

Sounds like I'm going to have to make a trip to the truck shop and do some swapping then...

I ran the TripleDog for nearly a year and towed with it alot. The power was awsome but it seemed to come in at or above 2000 rpm's. Not alot down low. But the power was delivered smooth. Never tried the Power Pup though.

That is the main reason I swapped from my BDPP to the Diablo Predator with my truck. I figured woth all the complaints they told me they had with thte original program, they would hve fixed 'em by now. Guess not. Return it and go with a Predator.
