DIY truck computer - 2005 Ram 3500
I am making a DIY computer for my truck (see signature), using a raspberry pi 3B (rpi) single board computer and a touch screen. I am not a programmer, just a DIYer, so this is a pretty challenging project.
Things I want the computer to do:
- Talk to my truck's computer, monitor through OBDII and tune the Bully Dog
- monitor cameras - Bed cam on truck, backup cam on truck, backup
cam on trailer, interior cam on trailer
- turn on and off trailer flood lights
- connect with my iphone 7 for hands-free cellular phone use - bluetooth
- wifi hotspot
- GPS navigation
- Monitor tire pressures on my truck and horse trailer (10 tires total)
- Media server (bottom of my list)
- I'll think of more, I'm sure
So far I have the navigation system working. Still working on trying to get the camera system working. Next will be the TPMS.
I have ordered an OBD2 communication device from a startup company at autopi.ip, which uses the raspberry pi and offers programmability for the can-bus functions. It should work with my truck's OBD2 computer quite well. It should also allow me to program performance functions and replace my Bully Dog Power Pup and Outlook Monitor. I should receive the dongle this month.
I will post updates as I am able to get things working.
Any help from you DIYers and computer geeks out there would be welcomed.
