Question Bully Dog Downloader in 04 Ca. model

I am interested in purchasing the downloader part#42566. I have a 2004 California model that is rated at 235hp. With it being a downloader that reflashs the ecu does it give it the hp rating of the 49 state versions? I mean at the 50hp setting does it make 285hp or 355hp? Many of the dealers that I have spoken with have not been able to give an answer. I would assume that with it being a downloader it would be a total different set of maps for the ecu not modifying the stock maps. I would appreciate any info you could pass on to me. There are a lot of us out there and spending money on a plug in module that will only get us to the 49 state specs is hard to stomach.

I sell them and I am not sure pm me with your email address and I will get an answer for you. If I was to guess I would say no it won't make your truck the 305/555 but I will know for sure tommorrow.

The Power Pup will recognize that your vehicle is the California Emissions motor and add the 50-90-130HP over your factory rated HP. You will see better actual RWHP Results then if you had the 305 motor. I have heard of up to 160HP on the highest setting wtih California Emissions motor.

I spent at least an hour researching this today and found that you will recieve the power settings over 235hp if you have cali version Max total horsepower you will see is 365hp. That 160 couldn't of been on a stock truck??

Dont worry i'm not one to take offense... No reason to argue over dyno numbers as there is so many different factors that come into play, such as the type of dyno, elevation, correction factors, and other mods. We both came up with the same info as far as what the pup will do for him. I'd say you did good work.

Well it seem that Bully Dog has differnt responses to the same question. I spoke with them today and after a long conversation and getting one of the enginers envolved they gave me a different response. The enginer said that the 50hp setting would raise the Ca. model to the same rating as the 49 state model on the 50hp setting. That would mean a 120hp increase to the Ca. model on the 50hp setting. It seem that I have stumbled apon something that they havent looked at. It will be interesting what they say in a few days about this issue. On another note I also spoke with a freind at cummins that said they Ca. model ecu can be reflashed with the 49 state map or any other map that they use in industral lines with hp ratings above what any single programer or plug in box can gain. I am still looking into this issue and will let you guys know. It seem that it will take alot time & testing to sort it all out. Thank you for the info and I will be ordering the Bully Dog downloader and taking it to the dyno. Stay tuned.
