Boxs and the 48re??

who is running a box on there stock tranny???i am just curious as to how these are holding up with the added horsepower.

i know that the auto tranny is not the greatest behind the cummins and obviously you "have to pay to play".

anywho...any info would be nice

I'm running edge box on level 4 with 48re for almost a year and so far no codes or tranny trouble. I do plan on changing valve body and torque converter when injectors and such go on. I don't pull much so maybe someone who tows regularly will chime in.

Run 6 gun on level 3 primarily or level 6 for fun and long trips (best economy). I still have the stock tranny and havent yet noticed any TC shudder or tranny slipage of any kind. I currently have about 4500 miles on the box 95% has been without a "towing load" which i consider in excess of bed weight or about 2000 lbs. I have hauled a little over a 2000#s in the bed for about 3000 miles over the road and all on level 6 with no problems what so ever. Got 19.8 mpg doing it too. I do plan to upgrade the TC and VB later but only after i have seen more research and proving done on the EDM injectors for the 03-04s. Those are going to be my next power mod in addition to the B1-04 unless they come out with something better...

nearly 70,000 on our Edge box with the 48RE. its an 03 QC LWB HO 4x4. its been on for about 70k miles, and about 30k of those miles are towing 10-15,000# with the box on.

its set on the second to highest level of 60hp/200tq. The tranny shifts hard into 4th at WOT, but under normal accelleration, the tranny does fine

midwestdually, you might want to check out the van Aaken SmartBox™ C3.2. I have been looking around for a couple of months and was very impressed with this one.

I know people that have the VA smartbox, they say the EGT's get hot very fast on the top setting.

There is a thread going on right now (there always is) talking about boxes. I would encourage you to check out Dougs "box matrix" for a pretty good insight into many of the boxes on the market. You will find a noticable power increase with any of them. Personaly i like Banks because of the security of all the failsafe checks built into their system. Just my $.02

With the Edge set at #4 the converter allows the motor to spin up to much for my taste. If I nail it off the line, rpm's come up to about 2,700 and don't go any lower until converter lock up. I'm hoping to have a Suncoast TC & Transco VB installed soon to take care of that.

Tranny

I am testing the C5 box for Van Aaken and it is a 200hp box and haven't had any tranny problems so far. My truck has 72,000 on it and is a 4x4. It has been to the track 4 times with a total of like 12 passes and I run it hard everyday on the street. Just keep the fluid changed and filter clean and it should be ok.

I had 60000 plus miles on my 05 with the bullydog and crazy larry for most of it and didn't hurt anything.. That I know of who ever's driving it now might blown it up but it never slipped on me.. My 06 has been smartied and an mp-8 and now an aurora 5k Turbo so it will be a true test.. I am goona run it until it pukes!! But I dont go to the drag strip and do 10-15 psi boosted launches either. I am pretty smart about it!!
