boring value tires quick...

With less than 2 weeks to our first 1000+ mile road trip... I picked up something in the sidewall of my tire and now have an unrepairable slow leak. My tires have 5/64 tread left - which the tire-guy said was approx 6,000 miles usable life (they are at 41,000 now). He would not suggest replacing one tire and mixing new/old at this wear level (I tend to agree). He was also not in favor of swapping the spare and buying one tire, mixing two old and two new. Honestly I'm not thrilled with the wet road traction I'm seeing at 5/64 treadwear so I'm almost convinced to just pitch the tires early and get 4 new.

The local guy quoted me $950 (installed) for Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's. He was very positive about this product (although admitting it's pricey) and challenged me to "check it out on the Internet".

I found the same tire on-line with a drop-ship deal to a local installer for $875.

The next choice is to replace w/the OEM choice Michelin LTX A/S with an on-line price of $830.

I've seen warehouse/club pricing for my size tires down around $750

So... I want quiet running, good traction all season tires. I deal with snow and "camping" type off road sand/mud - "boring" blackwalls fine w/me. I will pay for quality but want value. I need these tires fast (in the next week or so).

What do you all suggest for an LT265/70R17 Load Range E?

Any experience doing the internet tire drop ship thing?
Is the Bridgestone Revo worth $40 more than a set of OEM Michelins?

What else would you consider? What are you paying for 4 installed?

Dunno about costs because I got my 315s from a local DTR member, but I can tell you the Revos are an EXCELLENT tire. Way better than the OE tires. My parents had a set on their '98 F150 and they live on a dirt road, in snow country. They loved the tires. Good traction in the snow and dirt, and smooth on the road. I have a feeling they will be dissapointed come winter with the OE tires on their '06 F150 they just got.

I wouldn't even think twice about getting the Revos for the slight extra $$$. Just do eet!

Check the posts on Revo tires some love them out of nostalgia and the others dislike them, and a few like them. I don't have an opinion on them. 5/64 to the wearbars or the carcass. They sound too worn out to pass an inspection in my neck of the woods. There are now lots of good tires to buy. The Firestone's seem cheap and well liked and they are related to the Revos. I love my Coopers and Michelin has a couple of good tires in our sizes. Good luck. ks

The Revos are worth it. My dad put them on his Tahoe and he loves them. I have driven it a couple times, and I would agree. They are fairly agressive, yet very quiet. Go very good in wet and snow. When I replced my tires I went to 315s and was disappointed that I could not get Revos in that size. I bought Hercules terra tracs because they have a similar tred as the Revos. I like them a lot. You might want to see if they make those in the size you are after since they saved me mucho dollars over the BFGs in the 315 size. Good luck.

My parents had a set on a 7.3l powerstroke excursion. Firestone replaced them twice and admiited that they still would not ride smooth. My dad also had a set on a 1500HD chevy. He was dissapointed in thier performance. Both sets were bought at the same time, same place. Overall they were very displeased. I love my Cooper discover ATR's. Wear great, ride alright.
P.S. The Revos only lasted about 40,000-45000 before they were shot.

I like my revo at's but they are much mor eaggressive than the BFG rugged trails. Way better traction but they have more rolling resistance that could affect your mpg a little. I paid 730 for all 4 installed so your 950 seems real high.

good luck

I got some Cooper Discoverer ATR 315 70 17s from selecttire.com for 700 shipped to my door. Great looking tires, no tire noise, and ride great. We have the coopers on all the trucks back home, they will last you a good while. just my .02

Go buy Nitto Terra Grappler A/T's. you can get them for around $800-850 from Discount tire(they can order them) or check them out online at discounttiredirect.com. I will never buy another brand of tire, these things are awesome and have a 40,000 mile warranty. You'll never look back!

My coopers have a 60,000 mile warranty, not to bad for an all terrain tire.

I'm not a fan of the OEM Michelins, especially in the snow. I am a fan of discounttiredirect.com though. Got a nice deal on four tires for the Mrs. Volvo.

Like Ataboy, I heard a few guys saying they were very happy with their Nitto TG's. I'll be looking at them when it's time for me.

Another tire to look at is the Pirelli Scorpion ATR.

I had the revos on my hemi, they were as good as the bfg all terrain t/a. I've got the Nitto terra grapplers on my suburban nice tire, but LOUD! They also exhibit a slightly uneven wear pattern (like a mud grip). IMHO.
