Boost Foolers-check Engine Light

First off read my sig. to see what I have and the order in which I installed is the first to latest. I keep triggering my eng. light except when in 'stock' mode on the waste gate fooler, when I go over 35-40 psi. is this norm.?? Also I took off the boost fooler when I installed the MP-8 (has one built in) and I still trigger the check eng. light. With it on, is it sending signal(s) to cut down on the amount of fuel being delivered?? Or can I just ignore the check light??

Boost foolers delay the wastegate from opening at the factory preset, which is something like 36 lbs, and instead open it at 45. If the MAP senses more than 36lbs, it trips the light. I'm not sure if the MP-8 has such a feature to defuel.

mpracehemi,
How do you have your turbo setup for wastegate? Manual with boost and adjustable elbow? What are you using for MAP and wastgate foolers?
I have had a TST from almost purchase of the truck. It fools ECM MAP signal by only showing pressures below the ECMs high limit. When my Silver 62 was installed the wastegate fooler had problems and did cause the truck to throw codes. You may want to plug the stock wastegate back into the harness and see if the codes go away? I would be suspect of one of these signals causing your problem. I have been using the Smarty since around Xmas but will keep the TST for at least the boost fooling as it has been flawless.

I bought both foolers off ebay when I 1st got the truck from SPDIESEL, an ebay store. The wg fool. is an elect./comp. chip that I supposedly can adjust 5 stages, 5 being closed and I have it set on #1. I read on here somewhere that with the b.f. that no codes should be set off. I emailed sp and (in the mean time bought the MP-8 off ebay) asked him about throw the code. We ended up parting ways. Thinking about this as I'm typing, I'm just going to pull the wg fool and see what happens. Only 3 conn. and ground.

The electronic wastegate harness needs something connected to it. The ECM needs to think it is controlling something. When I had my stock turbo I left the electronics plugged into the harness and manually controlled the turbo gate using a boost signal thru a brass elbow right to the turbo. Allowed me to set the turbo for 38lbs. Worked well for 85k... If you disconnect the wastegate connection on the turbo you will throw codes.

The wg fool. is connected to the stock elect. conn., I'm just going to unplug the fool and re-plug the stock conn., thus removing the wg fool. and just using the MP-8 boost. fool. and see if I quit throwing the check eng. light. I'll be curious on how much boost I'll hit going this route. Before, I would get up to 45-48 psi. I wouldn't keep it there very long.

A few weeks ago a friend(who used to work at a turbo r&d) told me of a place they would test their turbos. I think it was a 7-10 % grade of a hill. I hitched up my trailer/car and pulled that hill with flying colors according to him. I hit 46-48 psi at times. the hill was a 3.5 miles long. My wife was with me to record the #'s to report back to my friend.
