Blew up turbo on 06

I Blew up my stock turbo today after getting on it with the new Quad race installed. I don't think is has anything to do with the quad race but I am pretty bummed. I just had my third child a week ago and we are broke. I am going to have to purchase a new turbo tomorrow and really need some help finding the best bang for the buck. I am interested in the new HTT 71 series but their standard 62/14 might be the best way to go and cheaper. I plan on only having one box like the Qaud race and some Flux 1's in the distant future so which turbo would be the best and most reliable. II's PS turbos seem to be having some problems lately on the 06's and I think that might not be a good choice. I also live at 4,000ft elevation and travel higher so I don't know if that is a factor in choosing a turbo. Is getting a new exhaust manifold like the ATS necessary? because I really don't have the money for it. Anyways I really value all of your opinions and could use some suggestions before I have to order tomorrow morning. Thanks, Tom J.

I would recommend the SPS62/12 from II. I know you said other ppl are seeing problems, but those are usually standard phat shafts coupled with poor driving and overfueling. You wont be over fueling, and the 62/12 will allow for quicker spool-up. I use the 62/14 @ 2200 ft elevation and have no problems, but your a little higher and lighter on the fuel! AND NO the exhaust manifold is not needed, only if you go for twins!!

If you are strapped for cash look for a take off stock turbo.

Sorry I can't be of any help here, but I just want to say thank you for being one of the guys that isn't going to hose the dealer for warranty coverage on a modded truck. Shows a true stand up kinda guy. Good luck to ya

I blew it up today after doing a test with the new Quad race I installed. I tried it yesterday and the turbo made a weird sound when I floored it going 35 up a slight hill. Today I tried full throttle from a stop pulling out onto the highway. When I got up to 75 mph I noticed my EGT's were almost to 1700 and I let off the gas fast and turbo barked bad and that was it, no more boost and white smoke pouring out of exhaust. A local diesel shop verified I had sheared the turbo and needed a new one. This is not good because I think my torque converter is not doing well after running crazy larry and XZT for the last six months. A transmission upgrade I was expecting and had even left message at Goerends so I could order parts. Anyone else have this happen to you? Thanks, Tom J.

My stock turbo is on a shelf at the place that does my upgrades. Had about 20k easy miles on it before it was replaced. Came off my 04.5, as far as I know it is the same. PM me if you are interested.

I appreciate the offer but I have to have my truck fixed immediately and I would rather just suck it up and by the turbo I need now instead of just putting a bandage on the problem. Can anyone chime in on the 71 series turbos or anyother turbo that is a good choice. Thanks, Tom J.

II doesn't make a SP62/12...go with a Htt 62/14 or better yet a Httss 62/13cm if you can afford it.

Yes I would have to agree. The HTT SS turbo's are in class by them selves. The way the keep EGT's down and the way the spool so easily and soon. I know a few guys that pull big trailers with the 66/16 and love them. So my vote would be an HTT.

The owner of the shop talked me into a II SPS62/14 71 which he says is exactly the same as the HTT 71 series SS 62/14. I saved a hundred bucks going with the SPS so I hope it is worth it. I drove truck with a HTTB2 62/12 and the power comes on so fast that it is almost hard to drive and it only has injectors. It impressed the heck out of me so I am pretty sure I am going to like my new turbo even if it has a little lag compared with a 12. Thanks for the help guys, Tom J.
