Big Pop...No Power!

Well it was bound to happen; fortunately it was no big deal. I was on the freeway acceleration from the on ramp when I heard (and felt) a giant pop, then loss of power and lots of black smoke.

I had to go about 2 miles before I could pull off due to the type of shoulder on the freeway. When I pulled over and opened the hood I was relived to find the hose from the intercooler popped off the ATS Intake.

Questions:

1. Where is a good recourse for quality hoses and clamps?
2. What potential damage was created driving without the hose in place? (I'm thinking in terms of sucking any dirt into the engine)

Defiantly scared the S*** out of me.

Thanks,

BD diesel sell aftermarket intercooler boots as well as PDR. Your probably alright as far as damage goes, probably the little distance your drove did not hurt anything. Your EGTs probably got real high for a little bit, but i am sure you will be fine

Unless your engine is covered with mud and debris, I wouldn't worry. When a hose lets go, it's under pressure and will be blowing the air out.

The BD kit comes with spring loaded hose clamps, I bought mine from
www.xtremediesel.com. Really good investment, I think Geno's seels them also.

Intercooler hose

I blew the top hose off my twins in a similar situation you described,... it beat the livin' he.. out of my hood. Since then I had a clamp welded on the top cold pipe so it can't back away and let the hose fly. Hood repairs are expensive.
