Big Allison behind 1SC Cummins, anyone ever put in a Dodge truck?
I was just thinking about this recently. I was looking an a big Cummins/Allison trans out of a crashed fire truck. Does anyone with hardcore horsepower Dodge/Cummins trucks ever install one of these? Or is it so heavy duty it sucks half the power away?
Why on earth would you want to do it? The stock tranny built up is just perfect. It will hold over 1,300 rwhp.
That tranny would probably be too big. The Allison tranny can't shift fast enough on the bottom end also.

I am not doing it, I like my stick shift. I saw it and I as just curious.
an ISC in a pickup would be pretty awesome, but the weight of that thing is incredible. and the length is pretty hard to deal with in a pick up. I do know of a friend who put a C series in his truck with a p7100 pump. its awesome, but it was a ton of work.
I can tell you that on the dyno those big allisons pull 100hp from a Volvo D12 engine. Its the only allison I ran on the dyno because most big trucks run a autoshift tranny instead of the allisons. If you could get a Eaton autoshift or a Merotor ZF you would never tear one up.

At any rate, there's some good reading. With this trans, I think you might have issues with the bellhousing mating up. Just because it came from behind a bigger diesel. Look around the web for Phoenix Castings. They have SAE belhousing adapters.
I've had thoughts of bulletproofing an allison to install behind my 5.9, but can't seem to justify the money. Mostly because i'd need a custom controller, which I think there are a few companies producing them.
Good luck and keep us updated on how you are progressing.

Thanx TonyB, but I am not doing anything with it, it is just on the ground and I thought it was interesting.
