Best way to lower EGT's
Just finished with all of my mods. When I have the Smarty on the high setting the EGT's go up really quick. There is no way I could make a run at a track (even 1/8 mile) without having to let off the throttle before the finish line. With my mods, what would be the best way to keep the EGT's in check? I've heard that the stock intercooler should be fine for my setup, maybe I need meth inj? If I do go with meth inj. which kit is the best one out there for my setup?

First, let's examine why you are getting the egts. Then we can examine the best way to attack your problem. OK, only happens when smarty is on high. Do you have a RP gauge? With the injectors you have combined with the modest cp3 improvement, it is possible you are draining the rail. This will cause abnormally high egts. I look at this first, as you certainly have enough turbo for the stix. Also the way you descibe the egts going up really quick indicates an RP problem. Not enough air with the turbo you have would cause a more gradual increase with the egts. What kind of boost are you seeing? I agree that an intercooler should not be necessary with what you have... you are borderline actually... a good aftermarket CAC with what you have now may only result in a 50-100* egt reduction at most under normal circumstances. Water injection is a good alternative with the injectors you have... I like the snow stage 3 for you purposes, but that is just me. There are other products that can do the same job cheaper. Expect 100-200* max cooling with water. (I wouldn't use the meth when you are just trying to achieve cooling)
Anyway, I would start by looking at your rail pressure first. Even if your arson kit is "rated" to X hp, it doesn't mean that it "will" support that power level or that the cp3 itself is a little worn and not able to keep up. |
I'll check it out, but I think the RP was fine.

how high are your egt's by the way
|
The first question should be - what are the egts? You say high. High is relative. If you don't think you could make an 1/8th mile run, you have a very serious problem or a misconception of acceptable egts.
So two numbers - egts and boost. What do you see? |
Boost 40 psi - does not ever seem to go over that
RP 25k - stays pretty constant EGT's 1400-1500+ - I think this is HOT |
Those temps are pretty hot but you could finish off the race. I agree thats pretty hot but i figured Smarty turned up to beast mode with lots of fuel would equate to a 1400-1500* run. I saw 1600*+ for my first time because i don't have a boost fooler yet, and i think thats the point where you have to get off of it.

Once it hits 4th, your boost will go up a little and your egts will go down a little. You should be seeing more than 40psi from that turbo - also in 4th. 1500 degrees is perfectly acceptable for a short run anyway. 10-15 seconds of 1500 is not going to hurt your truck. |
yeh omaha is right, when i just had my superb single i hit 1550 1575, going thru the traps, and those temps were there for about 3 or 4 seconds.get the water/meth kit youll be at 1375 1400 easy with just water.just noticed you still had your stocker turbo envolved. you could replace that turbo with the super b single, which would cool it offa little better then your stocker.a used superb single 7 800 hundred. water/meth 5 or 600.

He's got a 64 for a turbo not a stocker so that option is out.

Well I don't consider 1500* at the end of the 1/4 all that hot for a few seconds. I used to see a lot higher than that with previous stacks for a second or two.
With my mods which are not much different than yours I now see 1500* barely and not when it is cold like now. Is your turbo wastegated at 40psi, seems like low boost since you have a boost fooler. I see 50-55psi on high settings and track runs. My SPS66 wastegate is set at 55psi. |
Yeap, looks like you need to adjust the wastegate for more boost, that will cool it off. 45-48 psi should do the trick.
|
I have not adjusted the wastegate yet. Is that easy to do?

How does RP effect egt's I can hit 1600 fairly easy and it is 20 deg outside. I see 24k+ WOT.
