Best over all turbo
I am looking for the best overall turbos. I have asked this on other forums. I just want to get as much help as possible. I am looking toward about 550-600 hp. I just want a single turbo. No twin coments please. Im sure i will get the bug soon enough, but i just want a single for right now.[laugh][laugh]

I did a HTT 62/65/13ss for starters as it will work good for twins in the future...and as a single now...but will only support 500ish hp with reasonable egt's (i guessing, getting installed as we speak)...
Do you tow, daily driver, dyno queen, 1/4 mile....e.g. what do you use the truck for, will help the gents answer the question. |
550-600 will not be reasonable with a 62/65/13ss...at least not if you want full usable power and not just dyno numbers. back pressure will probably be too high with the 65 wheel. i would recommend the 71 wheel for reduced backpressure and 64 or 66 comp wheel if that horsepower is truely desired. you may want to ask yourself...what is the truck used for primarily...that will be a better determiner of turbos than just dyno numbers. i pulled 580 on my 62 but grenaded #6 on the drag strip due to pressure and egt's. i wish i had been told this info early on because i would have taken the current route. my 66/71/14 is great if you aren't towing much. a 64 maybe the best of both worlds. good luck

Grenaded #6 ouch....trying to avoid that one....will get upgraded to twins before i go big with current turbo.... |
I like the 64/71/13 I have. The F1-3.5s i have are a little big but it was done that way to go with twins later.

I been told by a few extremely reputable folks that the ht 64 71 13 is the way to go, and then later on down the line if $ falls from heaven, a s480 sits perrrrrrrfect under it .

Yeah it all depends on what you want to do with the truck. For just runnin around on the street and maybe a lil racin you would want a smaller turbo that will spool fast. I would recommend either a 62mm or 64mm compressor wheel with a 71mm exhaust wheel and either a 13cm or 14cm exhaust housing. That should give you good spool-up and enough air for 550-600hp along with keeping egts in a decent range.
Thats my $ .2.:) |

I would run a 64/65/13 as a single before a 71...
That turbo would support 600 hp just fine and spool far quicker than a 71. ;-) |
Turbonetics t-series or gt series.
Another choice is Garrett GT4094r. Both spool a lot faster for the airflow range you want to be in. |
4094 is substantially larger than a htt64, correct? does the bb design make that large a difference? who has experience running this turbo?
thanks |

Silver 64 hands down!. I currently run a 62/14 and it will get twinned in the future so, I am not currently concerned about its heat issues beyond 500 RWHP.
That said, MPI makes a real sweet kit for a stock turbo setup that will keep your EGT's cool in your HP range. |
Wow thanks for all the info. I do want to hit a couple dynos. Maybe some 1/4s. Mainlly just a daily driver, that i can rip around with, and if i pull up next to a choke or a dirty, so be it. Something i could win a couple here and there with. But ya mainly daily driver. But thanks again for all the info.
