Best Muffler To Keep Noise Down?

well i love my straight pipe. i love the sound and to me its not too loud, but lately ive been taking people on raft trips and pulling a 30' trailer with 4 people in my truck, and of course everyone thinks that its a little too loud.

what muffler can i get for it that will keep the noise down but wont hurt performance at all? i tried to get a stock muffler at the dealer but they said they dont sell them. what muffler would be the best for quiet operation?

i would look into the nelson or donaldson mufflers, straight through design and you can choose which length to match how loud you want. a lot of people love the sounds of them

I went with the 51" Nelson 86131M and really like it. A little louder that stock, nice deep health sound.

StrokeThisCTD,

We sell a world of the MBRP replacement performance muffler , it's designed to bolt right into the 2004.5+ Dodges. If you haven't modified your piping much to straight pipe it it shoudl go right in, it's also made of 409 stainelss so it'll last like the rest of the stock system does etc.

An Aeroturbine 4040L with the small resonator mounted as far forward in the system as possible is the best way to go. The Aeroturbine should help with noise, drone and lower EGTs.

Does the replacement muffler have the offset built in or does it use a offset pipe? In other words is the muffler a straight through design with an offset pipe attached?

Thanks

Rob

robwashu,

It's a straight thru muffler just like the the MBRP mufflers on our site only shorter, it comes with the welded hangers to match the factory rubber hanger locations and an "S" pipe to compensate for the difference in the factory mufflers "low in high out design". Bolts right in and sounds great, no drone or problems like some have, plus at the price we sell them for it is less than a lot of the others out there and it's built form 409 stainless to match the material the stock exhaust is built from.

Can any of these big mufflers be mounted up at the end of the downpipe? Between the crossmember and the body?

I am BIASED, I have a real shall we say, a non beleiver in Aero's, plus I am the USA'a largest MBRP WD, wouldn't do for me to praise something else now would it! Ask around the guys here will really tell you what they think about the MBRP drop in muffler. We have sold over 200 of them so far!

I have the Banks 4" monster exhaust and it sonds pretty clean even with the exhaust brake engaged. I recently removed the muffler though and found that it is bottle necked from 4" to 3" inside. I was not impressed. Replaced the muffler with a piece of 4" aluminized and it seems to exhale a little better although it does sound a little rougher ( I think I am getting more tumble from the joint in the pipe)

Thumbs up MBRP

I bought the MBRP from Mark Craig a few months ago, my muffler shop charge $20 to put it on and it's great. They thought it would be loud after taking off the "garbage can" as they called the OEM muffler, but it's quiet, a nice, subtle change from the original and with the turn-down stainless tip I also got from Mark, it is a nice package on my truck. What's the part number and cost for the MBRP muffler and required S pipe? Also, has anyone noticed an improvement in EGT's or performance by getting rid of the 2004.5+ "garbage can" stock muffler? Have plans for some upgrades, might as well start with the exhaust if it's necessary. And if this is a quiet as everyone says it is I'll buy one. Can't stand loud exhausts for my daily drivers anymore!

Aloha,

Site rules won't let me post prices and it's not on our site yet so you'll have to call us. It's complete with all the S bends and welded hangers etc to do the complete install on any 2004.5+ Dodges, It will work on the 2003/04's too but you need to source a 3.5 to 4.0 adaptor as they have 3.5 inch intermediate pipes. It's built form 409 stainless like the stock system and is very quiet except when you floor it, then you get a nice deep tone etc. Call us we will be glad to help you with any questions etc.
