I have the Uniden Grant right now and really like it. It has side band. I had a Uniden PC 78 LTW with the weather channels prior. That was a great talking radio also. You can have it peaked to swing between 20 to 28 watts! The Grant will swing after tuned and peaked to about 20 watts. Uniden make great radios and they make their own! Many CB's are rebadged and sold under different names.

I run a Galaxy 959 and a pair of firestik mounts behind the cab i have not finished fine tuning my antennas yet but right now they are below 1.7 swr and i talked barefoot about 10miles, so it seems to be a good setup.

I'm not sure about cb's but I have a BC-796D made by Uniden for my scanner. I use it for search and rescue stuff since our county is all digital trunked now. works great. Definitely the best scanner I've ever owned. Mounted easily in the truck with the stock gear.

do you have to have a long antenna to make things work?? reason is I don't want a antenna sticking way up above my cab.. these truck are tall to begin with - and if I have a really tall antenna I can't get in garages and covered mall parking lots, etc, etc... because of those dumb hanging cyn. hieght control things mounted to stop high clearance trucks from entering..

*** is there a diff. in scanner antenna's and cb antenna's???

There is a huge difference in the two types of antenna. You can definitely NOT use a cb antenna on a scanner, and vice versa.
