I recently bought Autometer guages for my 2004 Ram 5.9L 2500 and have a couple questions about the install.

Drilling manifold for pyro:
The previous truck owner drilled into the top of the exhaust manifold to install the thermocouple for the pyro gauge. For whatever reason, the guy removed all the gauges before selling the truck (don't know why). See picture from Diesel Manor, which shows where the thermocouple is currently installed.

My question is, should I just re-use this location, or drill a second hole in the manifold in the desired location. See Link:

If I use the current location (top of the manifold), can you tell me what the normal operating temperature should be? Likewise, what's the normal operating temp if I install in the recommended location.

Doesn't matter, you're sampling the essentially the same gas flow. The temp differance between the two areas is so small that it won't matter. The hole is already drilled and tapped, I would use.

Crusing empty on flat ground my temps are around 700'ish. Pulling a long hill with my light weight trailer I'v seen occasional bursts of almost 1100 - but that's pretty rare.

My probe is installed in that spot...
