ATS Co-Pilot
ATS Co-Pilot
I am thinking the answer to my question is yes, but can these be used on a stock transmission. If so, is there anything that would be harmed? I can't imagine that it would do anything but good. It would be going on a completly stock '03 48RE truck that will probably have a smarty by next month. Just curious.
It will work fine but you will probably smoke the converter clutch. The stock converter isn't stront enough for it to stay locked and you will deff. smoke the converter once you get the smarty. Joe
I ran one and it ruined my direct cltch pack (3rd gear). I was at 464 HP and everything was holding fine till I hooked up the co pilot. The reason was because if you're hot roding it you can get the TCC to lock up in 2nd and shift into 3rd while locked. Incredible for acceleration but hell on a stock trans.
You can use it safely if you don't hot rod at the lower engagement speeds (even at stock power levels).
Upgrading the valve body is a good idea before you get the Smarty. I have both the ATS and Suncoast and prefer the Suncoast as it uses more line pressure and will allow more torque to be held.
