ARB locker for AA&M 1150
I emailed eaton and ARB to see who will be the first out with a fully controlled locker for the AA&M 1150 axle. It looks like ARB will win - they are working on one now, likely out this summer (per Tim Lund, ARB USA). Eaton indicated that they are not working on anything right now, but that they eventually will (Jeff Phillips, Eaton Automotive). Just got to get the $$$ together:(

Hobbyman,
Did you happen to ask about the 9.25 AA front differential? I would be more interested in an air-locker for it. Thanks, The Boss Hog (Just in case it snows . . . . :D ) |
Boss Hog
Didn't happen to ask - sent them a reply email, so we should know shortly - probably before you get much snow :) I'll tag on their reply if they get back |
It did snow in Lakeland, Fl one time. I was about 10 years old...only got a little on the ground.....JKE

You may want to call detroit too. check on the electrac since they use AAM actuator for them. might be a little closer. I love the electrac I put in my TJ! way easier than an ARB and alot less to it. One simple wiring harness and a toggle.

ARB got back to me. Very confusing
They (Tim Lund) indicated that the AA&M 9.25 front is the same diff. as the GM 9.25 IFS (independent) which they already have a locker for, but that the "sealing system" on the IFS is different - no idea if that's a deal breaker or a minor fab job. Also, he indicated that the ARB for the 11.50 was not the model he had previously thought it was (he was looking at the first generation 10.50 axle), and that the 11.50 would be out "some time later". Sooooo, I don't think I accomplished much. I'll check on the electrac, but that's a limited slip / locker combo - great for the back but problematic for the front. |
I think I would hold off on any mods too the rear end. There are allot of problems starting to surface with this rear end, I would not want to void any warranties. I was calling around to see about some differentials I needed and several told me they had heard there were some issues with the 11.50 in the Dodge.

This is very disconcerting to hear especially since I own one :( . Could you please list the issues and problems you personally have experienced with the 11.5 AAM? I currently have over 30k miles on mine. At what point should I expect it turn into a POS? Thanks, The Boss Hog (Now something else to worry about . . . :( ) |
I've been following the rear axle issue somewhat. Appears to me to be a manufacturing / machining issue showing up early on (just what I make of the posts I've read). I have 30K on mine, so I'm hoping to be past the problem, but who can say? Warranty issues should always be considered - then again, I might be past 100K by the time a good locker shows up.

I just changed the gear oil in my diffs yesterday, at 49,618 miles. i was thinking i should have done it earlier, but upon seeing the fluid that came out, it could have gone longer. it was a darker honey color, darn close to what it looks like fresh out of the bottle. very little glitter. I wiped out the bottom of the diff with paper towels and it all looked good. i would have thought there would have been alot more glitter on the paper towel. I did take a few pics of the ring gear and carrier while I was in there:rolleyes: dunno why, just for fun I guess.
i was also pleasantly suprised to find a rubber gasket instead of RTV:D |
BUMP....
Still nothing? I just got off the phone with eaton and they said they'll have a true trac for the 2nd quarter of 2008 (not even a "locker") and they told me a detroit locker isnt even on the drawingboard........................... Anyone know anything? |
I have a 9.25 ARB locker up front.
|
I to have researched this topic extensively and what I found is the same as others here. Not much in the way of lockers for the aam 11.5 and not much planned in developement either. So the ARB is going to be it for the front and the rear. Good luck in your search.

I like how they've been working on it for 3+ years now...
Unfortunatly for those with out the factory "limited spin", we have unlimited spin..... :( Thes heavy doogs really need a good locker. I'd buy one tommorrow.[duhhh] chuck |
