anyone have problems after installing downloaders?

well here we go, i installed a ppe downloader in my 04 truck used it a bit didnt really like the way the power came on so i took it back out, any way since the weather was getting colder out here in the north ive been noticing that my truck was starting to start and stumble real bad on cold starts so i went to work to see if there was any new updated flashes {im a dodge tech}
for my truck, i took the drb111 and checked my ecm number to find that the total ecm number has changed it went from a 253ai {last 3 digits on ecm number} to a 273aa the 2 last letters are how many updated they have for the ecm, so i check the new number to see if there is any new flashes for it and it says its up to date, so i do more research to find out this number is for brazil or argentina only, {like it gets cold there} so i call ppe and they tell me that i can flash it back to the old number but it wont let me because it is a newer number than i had so i dont know what to do next, i will give the people who sold my the downloader fight with them for a while but it cant be long because the way the truck starts cant be good for it, it shakes so bad my bull bar almost hits my facia for about 2 minutes then starts to clear out slowly, any way now that i have vented has anyone ran into this issue also?

I haven't tried that downloader specifically, but no problems with the BDDL. In fact, the stock program in the BDDL has been known to cure an issue or two people have been having. I have had ECM updates since using the BDDL without problems.

Hmmmmmm........wonder if the PPE program for the 04.5 has the 3rd injection event that everyone has been trying to get rid of. Probably not many emissions requirements they have to meet in brazil or argentina, hence no need for it. Now there is a thought.

Over the course of time there have been posts about programmers and problems. Not many but some(also it dosen't seem many use downloaders on diesels)On TDR and here.Loosing the program etc. I inguired about downloaders to some of the more experianced in the GAS crowd and was told BEWARE! They mentioned several issues. From what posts and problems with them I read about ages ago it left me with a distrust for them.Stick with a box.

I don't have any experience with the PPE either, but I do have a Bully Dog DL. I've only had one problem with extreme program on my truck. I sent the programmer back to Bully Dog, and they reflashed it to the latest version...problem solved. I never had a problem flashing back and forth to and from stock.

I will add my .02. I don't trust downloaders. I do have a Bully Dog Triple Dog with the latest Crazy Larry update. I have loaded and removed it three times. I will not load it again. The first BD Triple Dog I got died after it was plugged in the first time. It never got passed the select engine menu. Local dealer swapped it out. The second one worked ok as far as I could tell with a couple of issues. I did have trouble removing the code and setting completely back to stock twice. The last time I talked with Bully Dog. Was told that I should disconnect the batteries for 15 minutes and then try again to put back to stock. Seemed to work. My take is that it never really removes all of the parameters or code that it loads. But really don't know for sure. I do know that a tech for a local dealer did the try it download on his 05 Cummins and had considerable trouble with removing the try it program. He had a number of talks with BD and was very unhappy with what they told him. I won't repeat it here since it is third party and I can not verify what was said. Since DC is so protective about the ECM code I just won't do it again.

Knock on wood...

I haven't had any problem with my downloader (triple dog). I can load/unload at will with no issues at all. It made my truck run better than stock.

No complaints here, except the original software (2.0.4) didn't run better on Performance or Extreme than it did on tow. With the new flash (2.2.2) it seems to have more power on the higher settings.

Stacked with the TST it runs like a scalded cat!

I had problems with one downloader but bullydog said it was a hardware issue and fixed the box for free.
It worked fine after that and worked fine on the next truck it went to.

This lets you know that a downloader can be detected by a DRBIII if the user is observant enough.

For you guy that haven't had problems with downloaders, that's all good, but if the dealer wants to know if you have been messing with the software, he can tell if he knows what to look for.

With the boxes, as long as you're careful with the connections there's no way to tell.

I had the same exact problem after using a bd tripledog downloader. I didnt like it so i programmed it back to stock and returned it for a refund. well I took my truck in to get flashed and they said they could not get into the pcm at all and said that it had a brazil/argentina programming. they were baffled and the called chrysler and they told the dealer to install a new computer. they put the new one in and all is well now. i will never run another downloader in this truck. I ran one in my ford and never had any trouble go figure

How much did that cost? What was wrong with the Brazil/Argentina programming? Did it cause your truck to not run right?

I guess that proves that Bully Dog is advertising falsely and their tech line is misrepresenting their product.

They specifically told me that the T-Dog scans the ecm and stores its data for returning the vehicle to stock later, then downloads the updated software. That is specifically why I bought the Triple Dog.

About a month later, I read on another site that the flash memory in the Cummins ECM cannot be read, only re-written. Makes sense now. I can only hope that the Brazil/Argentina program will not give me problems in the future.

I dont put much stock into what "dodge dealer techs" have to say.
Even worse opinion of the service writers.

PourinDiesel. What a bigot remark.EACH dealer is run and worked at by DIFFERANT people. No matter the brand. I was told that no one from Indiana had more then a grammer school education.Am I suppose to believe that? Just what the heck does THAT have to DO with a downloader anyway.

I was getting poor mileage and had an intermitent rough idle. i still have poor mileage but the rough idle is gone now. actually dodge replaced the computer under warrenty. they had no idea what was wrong with it and i never heard anything else about it. i am pretty ticked off at bullydog and will never run any of their products again. i talked to them on the phone and the guy i got didnt know his **** from a hole in the ground!!!
