Android Users Look Inside - Poll

Ok, by now most of you guys have seen what we are doing with the iTouch, iPhones and iPad’s.

I have heard some squawking here on some boards about an Android device as well as received a fair number of emails and our support team has also fielded some calls.

So if you guys are seriously interested in the product you have seen except for use with Android now is your time to show me how dominating the Droid market really is.

So cast your vote and lets see if an entire new app is worth creating for Android.

It would be nice for me to have this app on my Evo, But tapping into my PCM on my 93 to get all of those reading will not be possible. Good luck with the app build, looks like it would be fun and nice to have.

How does it measure boost and exhaust temp? I have an 03 with guages, but they have sensors for them. Does the PCM have sensors as well? Im assuming this will require a plug for the diagnostic port? It looks good, and I have a Motorola Droid, and if it just takes plugging it in, I would be interested.

My contract is over for my Blackberry, trying now to decide if I want to go with an Iphone or a Droid. Right now I am leaning towards the little robot instead of the apple with a bite out of it...

This device is connected to the Map sensor and we have an external probe for the egt reading.

Some of the newer trucks have egt probed built in but, they are too far downstream to be very useful.

Hey Qzilla, is it a physical connection that has to be made to the iphone/android phones. Just seems like alot of a hassle to plug it in each time you get in. After awhile it might get old. Have you thought about sending the info to the phones via bluetooth or wifi? Heck having it go to wifi would allow users with a laptop to pull the info and you could market a program for laptop users.

Just my 2 cents, designed a remote starter in college that sent the engine temp and cab temp back to the remote so you could see when the vehicle was warm and what not. When I was designing it I used a wifi capable transciever that was cake to program for. (well was 6 years ago)

Love the idea. I've driven with my laptop hooked up to my ECM. Just won't pay for the app. I recommend the market norm of a limited free version and a full paid version. Like a goofy layout and no extra functions with or without ads. Then a full app like the iPhone version.

Very cool! Glad to see its wireless. I should have read into it, but sounds like a very neat device. I'm an apple guy, but I can go to bat for android guys. I think you will do alot of business if you open up to that OS.

Gotta remember there will be alot of tablets coming out like the Dell Streak that will run Android also. Have you thought about creating mounts that would fit on the A-Pillar, etc? Might be cool to snap your phone into that, etc. I love my old school commander on the pillar.

Pillar mount has a slight advantage towards Apple hardware. iPod/iPhone 3g/3gs is of similar dimensions. Droid devices vary too much from manufacture and cell service provider. From a ROI stand point for R&D there would be little profit from it IMHO.

I have an iPhone and can see why the Droid users would be jumping at the bit to get this. The slight advantage that Apple carries is ability to offer a smart device without being tied to a cell carrier. iPod and iPad do not require a cellular contract to operate. I'm very curious to see how the Droid/Win devices will compete with Apple. A recent article on http://daringfireball.net/ (warning Apple fan boy site, but typically balanced) discusses the weird paradigm shift in Apple's hardware pricing advantage vs. the Droid/Win pad device manufactures.

The best example of Apple’s price advantage, though, is the iPod Touch. I would love to buy a $229 Android device that’s the equivalent of the iPod Touch — i.e., something pretty much just like a high-end Android phone but without the phone (and without the contract). Three years and 30 or 40 million iPod Touch sales later, there remains no such Android device. I suspect the main reason is that no other handset maker can afford to make one. (I also suspect that the relatively low price of the iPod Touch suggests that Apple could afford to charge much less for unsubsidized iPhones.)
With that said, IMHO If the development costs are offset by additional units sold Quadzilla will have the most complete, comprehensive offering for the tech savy consumer! Again IMHO.

Horsepower? Yup, I have an app for that!

LOL

Cheers
Capt. Jan

Think about a Locale plugin (they have a fairly easy API) so that we can set up a profile that will automatically launch the interface when we set a specific condition (i.e. bluetooth connection, gps coords near house, leave home wifi) I use Locale constantly, and it automates just about anything on Android.

For all that have voted I just wanted to tell you guys that Android products are in development and will be out this spring!

We have 2 separate products that will utilize the android os. And unlike our competitors you can use them on any android device including tablets!
