Alison tranny swap?? Has it been done?
Alison tranny swap?? Has it been done?
Just curious if anyone has swaped in an Alison tranny... Seems like its one of the big advantages the Dmax guys have is that Alison auto... To bad the rest of the truck is a cheap POS... But thats another story.

Man that is a long thread. I got to about page 10. Lots of arguing about dyno numbers. I will read the rest later.
Good link though, thanx.
Not interested in doing it, I was just curious if it had been done... Seems like its pretty accepted that the Allison is the best auto around. Not that you cant hold some power with a built 48RE... Just that the Allison is very stout to begin with and a 6sp auto is nice.
Thanks for the link too!

IIRC, the Ally is a 5 speed, I'm sure someone will set me straight if I'm wrong.
Not so sure that it's the best auto around either since the 68RFE came out. I guess time will tell...

I don't care which auto can handle the most power on a dyno, or strip. I prefer hauling with my friends stock Ally over my built 48re. Hands down. Which is unfortunate, because the dodge seems to handle the load better, and I prefer the inline six configuration.
