Alison tranny swap?? Has it been done?

Just curious if anyone has swaped in an Alison tranny... Seems like its one of the big advantages the Dmax guys have is that Alison auto... To bad the rest of the truck is a cheap POS... But thats another story.

I think I read something about that in a Suncoast Transmission ad.

as long as you dont want over 700 hp the ally will work fine over that and its living on borrowed time.

Not interested in doing it, I was just curious if it had been done... Seems like its pretty accepted that the Allison is the best auto around. Not that you cant hold some power with a built 48RE... Just that the Allison is very stout to begin with and a 6sp auto is nice.

Thanks for the link too!

IIRC, the Ally is a 5 speed, I'm sure someone will set me straight if I'm wrong.

Not so sure that it's the best auto around either since the 68RFE came out. I guess time will tell...

01-05 5speed and can be converted to a 6speed
06-present 6speed

I loved the 6 speed ally in my dmax. I like my 6 speed manual now, but after being stuck in some really bad traffic jams I would consider a swap if it was proven to work and be reliable.

I don't care which auto can handle the most power on a dyno, or strip. I prefer hauling with my friends stock Ally over my built 48re. Hands down. Which is unfortunate, because the dodge seems to handle the load better, and I prefer the inline six configuration.

I just wasnt impressed with the Allison when I drove one...I hated how it shifted. The manual shift was a joke. All in all I prefered both 68RFEs I drove over the mushy Allison...
