Aftermarket intake system with stock exhaust?
First off I am new (both to this forum and to diesel trucks) so please take it easy on me.
I'm am looking to hook up an aftermarket intake system (K & N) on my 05 2500. I will be using it in conjunction with the Edge Juice with Attitude. I want to keep my truck as quiet as possible so I was planning to stick with the stock exhaust. Is anybody else running a simular set up?
If the EGT's get high using the stock exhaust, I will then have to look at doing my muffler as well. Any suggestions on an aftermarket muffler that won't drive you nuts after driving 14 hours on the highway?

I recommend the AFE setup or a Scotty 3. Both great and all have excellent reviews.
As for EGTs, it would probably be wise to free up the exhaust somewhat. Mine is straightpiped and to be honest, when driving down the highway I find the turbo whixtle more annoying than the exhaust.

We have found that an Aeroturbine 4040L with off-set pipe to replace the factory muffler after the cat works pretty well. The Aeroturbine is mounted as close tothe cat outlet as practical and the off-set pipe connects to the factory 4" tail pipe to complete the system. As for the intake we prefer the Scotty RA5 which should be here any day now for those who are waiting.

David 4x4 is right stay with the AFE etc as the 4 layer filters just let in a lot of dirt on a diesel with the volume of air the pull! We ONLY sell the AFE Pro Guard 7 just for that reason at DPPI. Get one of them and a MBRP performance replacement muffler and your set. The MBRP is built from 409 stainless just like the stock system is and reuses the stock rubber mounts with it's welded hangers, it sounds good and isn't loud and drops your EGT's as well. We also have cat tets pipes if you need more EGT drop, but remember the sound volume will go up then too. Some folks love it louder some don't so just a word of caution etc. Call us if you want we have them all in stock and will be glad to help you with questions etc.

I have an Aeroturbine muffler and have been waiting for time to install it. Do you know where I can get an offset pipe that will work with the stock system on my 2000? It is hard to find a muffler shop that can bend pipe that big and have been thinking of getting them to weld one.

Just curious car nut. You say you prefer the scotty ra5 that isn't out yet. I might have missed it, but has it been tested against other intakes to make you prefer it over the others? Just curious cause I'm looking to get a new intake.

I can help answer this too.
When the 04.5 and 05 Rams came out, Dodge changed the fender inlet size and it did not look right or fit right using the 3. Luckily only a handful of the Scotty 3's got shipped before we caught the change. Since there was very little difference to the Scotty 3 most folks assumed it would net the same results. So did I.
What I have not told Car nut or others is I have two trucks that have logged over 20K each with the Scotty 5. The results are nice. Lower EGT, 4-7 PPM of silicon in the oil, quicker cooldown and as the feedback states...better seat of the pants acceleration. The other interesting report I am getting from folks using the Scotty 2 or 3 and I expect it with the 5 is improved mileage.
At least a 1 mpg improvement. Those people are on this site. They can chime in if they like.
I am also going to get a bit more technical with results for the folks wanting numbers. We will have many technical numbers for the Scotty 3 this fall.
The Scotty 2 and the Scotty 5 will be getting tested like this as well.
The Scotty 5 units are shipping right now.
