Aftermarket forged wheels, offset, etc...

I'm shopping for aftermarket wheels and was looking at the Pro-comp USA forged wheels (series 107/607). I keep reading that I want 6" offset wheels and they do make a set in 17x8.5 (or did, more later).

So I go to order a set from a major mail order house and they tell me that Pro-comp doesn't make that wheel any more. Then the guy tells me that with the 6" offset I can't lift the truck (!) and tries to sell me some other wheels with 4.5" offset. Meanwhile, Pro-comp's website still shows the wheels. The mail order place had just put them on a huge sale (down from $440 each to a little under $300 each) so I'm guessing it's an attempted bait and switch scam.

I really had planned on buying Centerlines anyway, but finding a decent seller is proving to be a challenge. I'd go with H2 wheels, but I just don't care for them. Besides, I don't need some wine and cheese savoring H2 owner busting on me for using "his" wheels.

Now I'm left with a couple of questions. Can I assume the sales droid was lying to me about the 6" offset issue? Also has anybody here actually used the Pro-comp USA Forged series wheels and if so are they worth the trouble for me to find another source?

Also, most manufacturers are offering a choice of polished aluminum or chrome plated (at a substantially higher price) - is it worth it to get the chromed wheels? Having dealt with many a polished aluminum wheel in my drag racing days (and they weren't being exposed to mud, dirt, and salt) I'm a little tired of having to constantly polish them.

Any other recommendations for high end wheels in the 17x8.5-9" range?

Did you call 4 Wheel Parts and ask them? They own Pro Comp. The Centerline are great wheels.

That's who I was ordering from. So what's the deal with him telling me that a 6" offset wheel won't work with lift?

I wanted Centerlines to begin with, I guess I just need to stay on that path.

I have the wheels in the link below.
http://www.centerlinewheels.com/whee...id=2&sw_id=305

I originally had them on my red 03. They stopped the 315's from ballooning out so much compared to the stock rims.

I also threw a pic of them on my 05 2wd. I really like them. The only thing is, these were one of the first sets off the assembly line and there are some tool marks on the indentions. The polished aluminum has held up well to my neglect. I just wish I would have held up for chrome!

The guy was right about Pro Comps forged wheels. They don't make them anymore. In fact, I don't think they ever made them. Why, I don't know.

About the backspacing, however, he is dead wrong. You want at least 5.5" backspacing, and I don't recommend a wheel wider than 9". I'm rolling on 17x9s with 5.7" backspacing (+18mm offset) and they are just about perfect. A 17x8.5 with 6" backspacing will work perfectly, and you will be able to lift it.

Polished or chrome is up to you. I prefer the looks of polished but hate having to poloish them every so often. The chrome are easier to take care of but a little too flashy for me. Mine are black...

I'm using Weld EVO's with 5-1/8" backspace and they do alright, but I'm about ready to start looking for something with 6".

Pro comp 1079 17x9 w/ 4.5" backspacing, 315/70/17 hankook dynapro MT. No problems so far, I got the polished and haven't polished them yet. Two or three times per year generally keep them looking new. I love Flitz polish and buff ball. I used it on some of my old wheels and will never use any other polish.
