AFE Stage II installed and now ????

I just finished installing my new AFE Stage II/ProGaurd 7. I would rather install 5 exhaust than one of these. Did anyone else have any trouble fitting all that under the hood? The oil filter is right in the way of hooking the down tube onto the turbo. Biggest thing is now my turbo sounds like it is farting when I let off with boost built up. I know it won't do it driving normal but what about when I am towing and have to shift under full boost going up a hill? Is the turbo going to go from together to apart? I tow in alot of mountainous terrain so I do have to shift under full load alot. Is this safe? I never heard it without the AFE. Other than that I love it. This bad boy whistles. And what about the cover? I have never seen a aftermarket air system that had this cover. I thought it was wide open when you raised the hood but the filter is covered up.

Sounds like you are, what we call, "Barking" the turbo. With a stock turbo, this is not good. It can eventually toast your turbo. If you plan on staying with the stock turbo, you might want to consider a "Blow off Valve" to releave the boost level when you let off the throttle quickly. BD make one, but it's not cheap, but less than a new turbo.

I have one and it works very well.

Well I have towed with this filter setup for one whole day and it is already getting old. It was fun when empty but towing in the hills all day was another story. I was on the phone at one time pulling a hill with a light load of about 4000lbs and the guy I was talking to said what is that whistling noise on your phone. Would it make much difference if I put the silencer ring back in? Would the Stage I be too much quiter?

They are loud, no doubt. If you like turbo whistle ( )...this is the air intake for you!

I can hear mine just backing out of my driveway or with the high idle feature warming up my truck.

The AFE stage 2 is awesome, but surely a pain in the **** to install!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the way the turbo whistles now
I am going to get a prefilter for it, will that reduce the whistle
and airflow?

My brother has a stage one that I may swap for if he will throw in a new ProGaurd 7 filter. Haven't decided yet. I love the sound but it will drive you crazy towing especially up hills. It sounds like it is going to suck the radiator through it.

The prefilter will reduce flow a bit. But will make up for that in protection of the main filter (keeps bugs and trash out).

With the prefilters it is important to give them a good dish soap cleaning every 2 months or so.

Is it possible to get too much air? I never run past level 3 and never hotrod it. So is there any chance that such a large filter and tube could affect performance in a negative way?

To answer your question:

Back when my truck was close to stock I ran it on TST's Mustang Dyno and I lost STOCK horsepower after I had installed an intake and straight pipe.

Of course when your running more fuel then the intake and exhaust mods come in to play.

Guys, If you add an exhaust and improved air intake without a box to do boost fooling you will lose a little "dyno" power. As far as I know all the "boxes" do boost fooling even if they are in stock or timing only mode. So if you have juice with attitude...even on stock setting you should be making more power. The effect of a good intake is amplified the higher the power settings on the box up to the limits of the turbo and the intercooler to keep cool air pressurized and cool. ks

It's quite loud. I just installed mine. I already had a AFE TQ Tube and just ordered the Stage l kit and with my silincer ring missing it is almost to the point of obnoxiousnous(sp) but not quite.

On the highway doing 70-75mph I can hear it pretty well with my radio on 21 playing some hard rock music.

About the install, it was a breeze for me. Took me about 30 min to take off the stock intake and install the new one.

Booger, put the ring back in, it should help. The whistle can get old towing,

I can bark the turbo easily to, but dont. When shifting, just ease off the go pedal, watch the boost pressure fall some, then shift. It will never bark. Soon it becomes as natural as breathing.

Yea im content with it. To my knowledge I pretty much have the Stage ll. I got a TQ Tube from Rick on this site (Runamuk, thanks buddy) and I just ordered the Stage l kit. If I were to buy the Stage ll all at once I would get the intake, tube & the cover I beleive, for quite a high price also. I just don't have the cover which I don't mind cause it looked a little weird to me.

But yea so far I have no qualms. Install was cake, sounds good in my opinion & it looks pretty darn good also.

Also before I forget to mention I think the Stage ll kit comes w/ a PG7. I didn't get that filter but if I want I could always order it at a different time.

I was driving my sister to school the other day. She was riding in the passanger seat, when I hoped on the freeway doing about 75mph she looked behind her, then she was looking to the side of her. I asker what she was looking for. She said "what is that noise, it sounds like a jet plane is flying over top of us." I just laughed.
