Added a new muffler
Added a new muffler
Got my new muffler from Mark over at DPP. It's a MBRP muffler and it comes with an extension pipe. The hangers are already welded onto the pipe and muffler and fit perfectly in the stock location. Since I have a regular cab, I had to cut about 6 inches off the tailpipe. I thought I could just undo the clamps and wiggle the muffler off the pipes - yea right lol. I ended up using my Black and Decker Navigator with metal blade to cut the muffler out. Cut it like butter
Then a little pounding using a flat chisel to get the remaining pipe off. I opted not to remove the tailpipe as there were star washers holding the pipe to the rubber mounts and didn't feel like messing with them. Aligned and mounted everything up and tighened down the clamps then fired it up. Hey it sounds like stock except a little more throatier (if there is a such a word). Took it out for a spin and enjoyed the nice mellow sound. I was somewhjat surprised as it was only slightly louder than stock. Really liked it when I put my foot in the throttle though - had a "don't mess with me" sound. Cruising was very pleaseant as there was no drone at any steady rpm. Took my about 1 1/2 hours to install. EGT's dropped by approximately 60.
Just wanted to say thanks to Mark and the guys at DPP for the time they spent with me discussing my truck and mods. Great guys and the muffler setup worked out much better than the dual setup I was considering. And I couldn't see wasting a perfectly good 4 inch exhaust as my truck only has 2100 miles.

Yup, I love the MBRP exhaust. I got the cat back, and it's a short 15" muffler or so. I ran the cat test pipe and loved the sound, but it was a little to loud for the girl, and towing all the time it was too much. I might make a cut out so when I want I can run her like she wants, open and mean = )
